I’ve been following people’s experience vinyl wrapping their tail lights. The posted results look very nice and it’s a simple technique that hides faded pink or cracked lights. I started researching different vinyl kits and various tint colors and styles… that’s when it hit me, maybe smoked lights would look good on a slate grey car?

I love the classic silhouette of our cars, the simple flowing, uncluttered lines are timeless. In experimenting with this vinyl coving, I’m hoping the smoked-out lights blend into the bumper design for an overall smooth flowing, harmonious shape?

It also gives the car a hint of R Gruppe style (for which I believe 964s are a perfect foundation for…). The nice things is that I can just peel it off if I don’t like it!

Next project, new mirrors… something other than aero mirrors?! Something classic and MUCH smaller...

I usually don't like smoked taillights or turn signals. But that looks great with the color of your car !

I've thought about this for my lights too...if those carbon fibre centres ever get here (some guy at Pelican is supposed to make them for the 964), I'll tint the rear lights and the front corners, and changing out the fogs for ducts.

I like the rear look, but would go for clear indicators in the front. Nicely done though, and I like the fact that it's easy to reverse back to original.

Looks great! My tail lights are badly sun faded and I've been looking for ways to give them a face lift without buying new ones. What did this cost you and how durable is it?

you need to put some proper suspension on that thing, unless you plan on competing in the paris-dakar next year.

Nice, mine is slate grey too, now I know what it'll look like if I do it to mine. I agree with a few of the comments above, I prefer the rears over the fronts.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of tinting, smoking, etc. Although it looks good on a gray car, I wonder how much it compromises the effectiveness on your tail/brake lights in particular.

The brake lights on air cooled 911s are small by today's standards. With added driver distractions such as texting, talking on the phone, sipping your latte, etc. you need to make sure people behind you see when you brake. Especially since the Porsche has much better brakes and stops much faster than most other cars on the road. Because of that I ended up adding two extra brake lights in the rear center reflector of my old 964 and it's on my to do list for the 993. I want to make sure people see when I brake!

I think it looks cool but I would be concerned about the brake lights as Ilko mentioned. Can you tells us more about the product used: Is it a pre-cut kit? Or did you cut the film yourself? How did you apply the film? Where did you buy it?
