Good luck to the person who is actually looking to buy this car...hope it all goes well and the PPI turns up nothing more than what the ad states.

I'm actually looking to buy a 964, not just trolling on the thread.

I've left 2 messages for the seller on his home and work numbers. It appears he's put less than 6000 miles on the car in 2 years. Cosmetics and window switches are not a big deal to me. I'd like to get the car to a good independent mechanical shop familiar with 964 cars and a good bodyshop to check the body for previous body work. I'm optimistic but realistic. If any local Rennlisters want to check out the car in person before the PPI please let me know.

My take on this is I would be very careful. $15k for a 78k mile car that needs an expensive clutch flywheel repair and needs TLC. An hour or 2 to buff it out yourself or pay someone $200-500 to clean up the cosmetics would go a long way to sell the car if it is all he claims it is. Simple widow switch replacement another 5 min or does it need more?
Why can't he post pictures of the car in current condition? If his dual mass flywheel broke you could be looking at an expensive repair if not a major expense. cracked tranny case or something along those lines. In either case it is more than likely you can't start the motor to check it without repairing the clutch first.
I don't know any LI shops to send you to but I can recommend some in NY and CT although I doubt he would be willing to have it flatbeded that far.
His asking price is high IMO for a car needing work. A 91 with 78k miles is worth a tops of $18k in this market maybe a little more if it were spic and span clean with 0 issues and all the records. Without current pictures and a full disclosure on what happened to the tranny I would proceed with extreme caution.
I would think if he needed to sell he would be asking closer to 12-13k for it considering the work needed.

That's my thought too cobalt...especially seeing how a 9.5 Holt car went down to this condition in 2 years and less than 6000 miles. They must have been hard miles.

Anthony - my thoughts exactly. I am starting to believe this guy may be out of town since I havent been able to connect with him yet. The pictures on the Holt website sure are nice though. As soon as I hear something I'll let you guys know. Maybe I'll be scheduling a trip around the 20th of February at this rate and see you at the BBQ.

Not sure where you guys are shopping, but good luck finding an 80k 964 that's clean for $18k.
Maybe you've been hypnotized by the fumes used to print "Excellence" magazine... those guys are high on that **** too.

I wish it weren't so but the market for all of these cars has taken a big hit. Especially since I have seen some very nice 996TT's and 993TT's sell in the mid to low $40's and $50's. Stock clean 993's sell in the $20's. Although I prefer the 964 myself i would be a fool to buy an 80k mile car in the 20's when I can buy a 993 or lower mileage newer MY 964 in like condition for the same.
I am sure the market will turn around but this is no longer a sellers market. The only cars commanding big $$ now are very low mileage cars and i am talking pristine sub 10k miles, anything else is a crap shoot.

FINALLY connected to the buyer today - decent guy. Car / buyer have issues and the car cannot be driven. If any Rennlister wouldnt mind taking a ride to Queens to give the car a first look, I'll buy you dinner. PM me with your phone number and I'll share details.
Edit - just noticed that HOLT pulled the pictures of this car off their website, hmmmm. Maybe I shouldnt have called them to ask about the car ?
