Default hamsters in the heater.

Hi,
Only joking the little fellas aren't in there, but the heater in the 964 is really noisey the one in the scuttle rhd side in the front. Can anyone tell me what it takes to get to it and lube it or is it a new bearing I need.

Regards Gaz.

I don't believe they can be lubed - but I have kind of lubed mine.

From memory - remove the fuse box (rest the fuse board on the wing / fender). Remove the firewall.

This gives access to the fan on the RHS. You can unclip the cover. I sprayed plenty of grease onto mine, which did quieten it down for a few months but it's really only a temporary bodge.

Oh - and you can't replace the bearing, you need to replace the fan, which at least in the UK is not cheap. I did intend to get mine done, but it had to be ordered from Germany - and wouldn't have arrived before I was taking the 964 on a weeks holiday. I had to bodge it, or I'm pretty sure I would have driven it off a cliff - mine had got very loud!

Air con only affects how hard it is to get the LHS fan out - not the RHS. My 964 has (non working) air con and it didn't affect my access to the RHS fan.

Those hamsters are getting more expensive every day...Vertex currently lists them for $549 and $649.

Has no one figured out a way to rebuild them? I can't believe it would be impossible.

Default top dollar hamsters

Thanks,,

The info is helping me build the confidence to get at this at the weekend,I will recondition this motor when I get it off ,mine is working but very loud.
I hope I can turn a bush down out of nylon or drill it out and put a bearing in.
As the above post we should be able to do a repair to it.

Regards Gaz,,,
