I recently bought a 1993 C4. The fan began making a racket within a couple of days. I assumed from reading, that it was the rear heater fan: I replaced it, (almost $500) and the problem persisted. I have discovered that it was the left front blower motor. A/C doesn't work without the fan on, and it gets warm...
It looks like a major job to get the Blower assembly out. Any hints? Is it a big job? Should I replace the right one at the same time (they look expensive)?
In the interim, can I disconnect the left motor, using the right one for partial A/C? Where is a disconnect?
Thanks
Randy

The left front blower is the tougher of the two. In order to get the fan out, the firewall needs to be removed to allow access around the A/C lines. See Wachuko's DIY (Posts #8 and #9) at:

Once the firewall is out it's pretty intuitive and an easy R&R. Start to finish was 2-3 hours.

I just cut one of the wires to silence my fan until I finished the above DIY. Try vertexauto.com for a replacement fan.
