Default PCA valuation Prices going up?

After seeing that my insurance company has my 92 C2 cab valued at $16,000, I got a valuation from PCA.

'92 C2 cab 69,000 miles 3xBlack 9/paint 8/interior, 60,000mi service complete, new brakes/rotors (ouch), new AC compressor/condenser (ouch/ouch), EVERYTHING works.

PCA says $27,000 to $36,000 with an average of $30,000 - sounds high to me - or are prices coming up?.

They say they base it on actual 10 major sources, newspaper ads etc. probably asking prices.

Perhaps a PCA member/enthusiast would pay these prices for 3xBlack, good condition & maintenance.

Perhaps C4C has increaded used car prices - i doubt it for 964's.

Those prices are very high based on confirmed sales I am aware of. The $16K for your low-miles/great condition example is way low unless it is a panic sale.

I just turned over 68,000 miles on a well maintained/never dented/always garaged/everything works white 964 (the white cars are faster, according to most experts). I think it would still fetch $20K - $22 K. Thankfully do not need to sell into this market.

I am helping a friend shop for a 993. There are few on the market, and asking prices for decent examples are high in the 30s. I have not seen one sell yet.

I think there's still a tragic tension between what sellers WANT thier cars to still be worth and what buyers WANT to pay in a crippled market/economy. The few deals that DO occur appear to often occure under duress and probably don't represent the "real" value of the cars.

A local guy picked up a mechanically solid, scruffy '90 C2 for $18k CDN and it was a bit of a deal, but I don't know the motivation behind the sellers desire to move the car.

Further complicating things is the small sample size. I've seen probably less than six 964's change hands in Toronto (although I by no means have clairvoyance over the market), but with so little deal flow - it's hard to pinpoint a trend.

RK

PS. Clinically proven - white cars are fastest. Why do you think they call it Grand Prix White??

I think the sales do imply real value. Look at it this way: the low-ball buyer would be quickly out-bid if the price was too low. The fact that many are willing and able to hold out at an unrealistic high price does not set the market. Confirmed sales do that.

Cool

I do think the PCA valuation is high.

I also beleive the actual sales are the market at that time.

As for white cars vs black cars being fastest - physics clearly shows us that white cars repell light - so they are fastest driving away from the sun - black cars absorb light so they are fastest driving towards the light.....

Has your friend seen this one? I do not know the guy or the car, but it looks like a deal.
