not sure going a partial installation will work....certainly for bass you could install a small sub woofer and a small amp, but you would still be dealing with the rest of the system (speakers & head unit & tweeters) which are approaching 20 yrs old, so old tech, fuzzy sound, and no linkage to mp3 or ipod.

after input from forum members & independent research, and audio set up i had in my last car i decided to do complete system upgrade (wife & i enjoy roadtrips-music).

tomorrow we have booked installation:
-all new speakers ( bostons) and tweeters
-new head unit ( alpine, cd friendly, built in mp3 ability plus ipod link)
-alpine digital amp to power the speakers (alpine pdx4 100)

will leave factory amp in place & factory wiring in place in event return to bonestock warranted - new install will be independently wired (easy in a porsche) and new - larger amp installed in the trunk..........

can report in 24hrs on the install if you are interested

gasp its raspberry

Raspberry, Be sure you get all the facts on the Alpine units. Lower end have minimal EQ settings which requires another unit (PXA-H100 imprint processor) to expand sound setting balance. The higher end units have more flexibility. Believe me, in a 911 this is more important than you'd think. Also....Bos. Acoustic Pro 60-se speakers!!!6.75" and they DO fit in your doors.

I also looked at a 911 that had bass speakers behind the rear seats.

I use one of Rob's sub enclosures behind the driver seat. Best thing I ever did for the sound in my C2.

I have a 92 965. When I got it it had this deck with old school looks

this amp
http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/products/867.asp
and MB quart speakers in stock size and location front and rear with Mb quart x-overs

I listen to drum and Bass among other things and this system delivers the bass

every one who gets in my car asks where is the box ? There is no box

this system rocks and I can listen to classical on road trips without headache

I have a JVC head unit and the reception is horrible, or so I think so. Also, when I put an MP3 player into the aux. the music comes out like I am listening to my radio with bad reception, the music cuts in and out. Can anyone give me a diagnosis on this from what I've described?

Where did you put the Boston Pro 60 crossovers? I am in the process of putting in Pro 50s. The door storage pocket is the easy choice, but it looks a little funny in there. Any pics?

Default Infinity Basslink

I have MB Quarts all around on the interior but they still didn't offer half as much bass response as I like. I decided to add an infinity basslink under the front hood and it sounds perfect. I usually don't like the all-in-one type subs but i heard these in the past. Plus i really didn't want any additional weight going towards the rear of the car. It just barely fit under my hood but it is all the way forward on the passenger side. I'll try to get some pictures for you....

;; I built small woofer enclosures for JL audio 8" that fit on rear seats hidden perfectly with backs down. Stereo is incredible with pro 60 se Boston Acoustic in doors.

What a great idea! I think I may try this. Where did you put the amp?

What do those assemblies use as an enclosure? Subs need tons of volume to create bass.

FWIW - I tweaked a pals 3.2 Cab's system on the weekend - Eclipse HU, old Inifinity Amp and old, paper cone MB Quarts in the doors only. An amazing amount of bass for such a line up. I was totally surprised by this set up. The doors offer a lot of volume for the mid/woofers to load into.

I'd think that higher quality seperates, a beefier hight current amp and some dynamat in the doors would provide a tight/clean enough low end for all but the most demanding listeners.

For those who need more than that - subs with big enclosures and bags of current are required.
