Sunroof Problem

Closed the roof today while shooping with wife. Went to open it and all that happened was heard the motor for the roof and the driver's side moved about 1/4" and dropped slightly. Passenger side did not do any thing. Appears to move slightly sideways and then stops. Can close the roof back to sealed position. Me thinks I am looking at new cables for the sunroof over the winter time. Anyone been into this and what is involved? At least she won't be nagging me to wear sunscreen for the rest of the season.
.............
Thanks

I have the same problem haven't figured out what to do yet...hopefully someone will have a good suggestion or fix...otherwise I'm taking it to the dealership...I'm sure that will cost a pretty penny.

i suggest all of you remove the sunroof completely and re-lube your cables..
i did this fix a couple of months ago because my sunroof was closing on a bit of an angle and was getting hung up and needed help closing.
i thought for sure it was the cables but it was non lubrication of the cables..
its been working fine ever since

UPDATE!!!!
Opened the headliner with the zipper by rear window, removed the foam and insulation (just like the day it was made and installed). Removed the motor and the gear assembly. Can see the alumunium tubes and the cables inside. The one from the passenger side can be moved very easily with a small screwdriver and eventually comes out the end of the tube on the drivers side. The cable from the drivers side can also be moved, but very very hard to move. When it does, the sunroof on the drivers side drops and begins to move backwards until the sunroof jams because the passenger side is not moving. The sunroof is in the closed position and does not move at all on the passenger side. ANY IDEAS HOW TO GENTLY PERSUADE THE SUNROOF TO DROP AND SLIDE BACK?? HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE HEADLINER FROM THE SUNROOF WITH IT CLOSED???? ANOTHER CHALLENGE IN THE MAKING!!!!!!

Mine is going into the Porsche bodyshop this Monday for some paint work. They are also going to fix the sunroof which is experiencing the exact same issue. I'll let you know what their solution is.

the sunroof headlliner has several snap type plastic hardware that run along the very front edge which hold it in place
even if the sunroof is closed you should be able to get the headliner free by using a thin type tool to unfasten the front edge and work the headliner free and slide the headliner back...then you can access the cables and cable hardware underneath.
