Just a quick post. Anyone in a RHD country removed the cab top controller? Mine decided to stop opening today (well half and half) and after a search on this most excellent forum I've surmised I have dry joints on the controller PCB. Just need to know where it is on a right hooker and how to pull it out. Thanks all you're the best!
Thanks Kahdmus, I was kinda hoping for a run of good luck. If it's just a couple dry joints on a PCB I will be quite happy, at least it will be a free fix! In Belfast this week driving a Renault Scenic diesel hire car flying back on Thursday night so will likely take a shot at it on Friday if it's not raining too bad...
Well it finally stopped raining today so I got the car out and scrambled under the dash to find the cab control unit. On the RHD it is under the dash on the passenger (left side), just below the glovebox liner as rhyd911 kindly said.
I unplugged it and dismantled the plastic box (the top and bottom covers just unclip, as do the four plugs - which incidentally look identical so I marked them 1,2,3,4). I took a quick look and couldn't see any obvious dry joints, so plugged it back in and now everything works!
I'm going to go and get a good magnifying glass now and have a proper look for any culprits as I don't fancy crawling about under there again any time soon.
The unit sits on top of a metal bracket held on by three nuts and there is another little black plastic box screwed onto the bottom of it which I'm not sure may be the speedo control? Anyway the problem is definitely in this area, and thanks to the guys on the 993 forum for identifying the cause.
If anyone else has the same intermittent bug on their cab top then go to this thread...
