Default Question for the forum on wheels

All,

I am looking to get a set of track only wheels as I am tired of tearing up my good street tires (mich pilot sport A/S's). I plan on fitting Mich. Pilot Sport Cups on the wheels, but I have a quick question.

I am curently running "turbo II's??" with 17x7.5 offset 52mm in the front and 17x9 offset 47mm in the rear. I like the handling and don't really want to jump to a set of 18's as I would have to put in the steering brace and all that. So... I am looking at a set of Cup 1's that are 17's and the same widths, but the offsets are 23mm in the front and 15mm in the rear. Will I be able to do this, and will it really change that handling of the car??

I'm afraid you've not got a hope with those wheels. ET23 and ET15 wheels are unusable on a 964 - they are designed for the cars prior to the 964 which didn't have ABS and used completely different hub designs.

Regards

Standard issue 993 "cups" are the economic weapon of choice for the track, in 17inch 7.5/9 widths. You can run additional tire width but are maxed out by the fender/oil line/control arm clearances on the right rear which will requre spacers for wider tires. Not that that looks like an issue with your current ride hight however, as it looks like you have the suspension at the "road rally" setting...

The Tundra is mine, or else I would have moved the car

Yeah, I am in the process of getting everything together that I need to lower it,...Bilstein HD dampers and H&R sport springs I guess they are called. A work in progress I am afraid. Just purchased a house, so most of the car money is being poured into home stuff, you know how it goes.

So you guys are saying that I should look for the same Offset settings for the cup wheels?? I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the offset thing I guess.

Ian, here is a handy site for calculating offset and tire width. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Very nice, now I see why the offsets I am looking at won't work, they will push the wheels out too far and when I lower the car they will rub on the fenders.

Thanks for the info!

Get yourself a set of 17 inch 986 boxster wheels for your track tyres. Much easier to get hold of than 964/993 wheels and a lot cheaper. The offsets are almost identical. The rear width is 8.5 inch rather than 9 inch but will still take a 255/40 tyre.

You should be able to go up to 55 with your offsets. As mentioned above, pay attention to your oil line at the top of the right rear wheel well. Depending on your negative camber, you may need 5mm spacers.
Same at the front, if you touch at full turn in.

if you are looking for a set of track wheels why not maximize the opportunity?
8ET52 & 9ET55 is one fairly available possibility
those are also doable w/ more work
8ET 52 & 9.5ET47(ET68 w/ 21mm spacer)
8ET52 & 10ET50-44 (ET65 w/ 15 -21mm spacer)
