Default Carbon Fiber Bumper Beam

I had the rear bumper off last week and noticed just how heavy the aluminum bumper beam is.

Does any one make a carbon fiber replacement? I wonder how it would compare to the aluminum bar for strength.

I might pop few lightning holes in the bar like Bill V did on his 993.
I think he said he pulled off 4 pounds per beam.

FVD and Cargraphic both sell c/f beams and lightweight mounts. I would like to have both front and rear but it's a lot of $$$$$$$!

Just my $0.02, but I can't imagine a carbon fiber beam providing equivalent protection at a cost that would be less than insane. I also don't see that removing 4 lbs from a 3200 lb street car is going to provide any meaningful benefit.

That said, what we did on my track car was to replace the stock beams with 1 3/4" tube steel welded in. While many GT cars remove all equivalent protection, I wanted modest protection and light weight in case of a minor collision.

Wow 1200 bucks for a carbon beam.

Wishful thinking on my part...Oh Well...
