Default Transmission Oil Leak

I have an transmission oil leak from my 93' RS America race car. The oil is ending up dripping off the transmission oil drain plug (lowest point). It appears to be coming from the right side of the transmission in the area of the switch marked. BTW can anyone identify this switch for me, it seems to be adjustable. Any ideas on the leak?

Thanks,

JF

I think that's the limited slip diffy's adjustment-measuring access cover plate.

...and I don't think there's any spring-loaded whats-a-hoozits captured behind it, just waiting to spring out when things are unbolted.
(The absence of which would make a drain-and-replace-gasket/o-ring much easier...

But I'll just wait here till someone actually experienced says what's behind door #2, there.

Good luck.

I think the center portion provides drag on the shift rod.

It looks to me like there is a leak in the drive flange seal, that could be where the oil is coming from, they are cheap and easy to change.

Steen:

Can you more specific on the drive flange seal you mention, part # and replacement procedure? I'd still like to identify the function of the bolt/plate circled in my picture.

Thanks,

JF

I agree that it looks like it is comming from the output flange seal.

The output flange is just above the item you circled in red, comes out of the transmission, drives the half shaft (rear axle). Undo the 6 bolts move the half shaft out of the way, remove the center bolt of the output flange, pull it out, and you will see the seal. In the picture you are looking at item number 28, 29, 30. For assembly the torque specs are; output flange center bolt 32 ft/lbs, the 6 drive shaft bolts 60 ft/lbs

You have to empty tranny, first, to replace that seal (28), right?

And maintain seal's inboard/outboard orientation (to the old seal) for installation?

As far as I remember, you do not have to drain the tranny. # 28 is actualy a roller bearing, but you get the idea. I went to my local tool store and bought a "SEAL REMOVAL TOOL" highly recommended, it is a handle with 2 hooks on one end, makes removing the old seal a 5 sec. job. To install the new seal, put a bit of grease on the spring inside the seal, that will prevent it from jumping off when you tap it in place. I installed the seal on the output flange and used that to get it started into the pocket, just tapping with a soft hammer, then remove the flange and tap the seal in the rest of the way. Have fun

Great thanks, I still need to know what the bolt I circled in the picture does since I adjusted it!

Default Trany Pics

The yellow circle is the shift rod adjustment.

The red, in this pic, is the C4 lateral lock.

On a standard C2 there's a block off plate here.

With a limited slip this is the inspection/adjustment access point, as Lonnie suggested.

Though, I could find no reference in the manuals to the eccentric adjustment you seem to have.
