I recently returned from a road trip down to So Cal to visit my family. Originally was going to fly but decided to drive after receiving my refinished Speedlines last week (thank you Jim Dorociak). I'll do a photoshoot soon and post better pics of the wheels, but wanted to share some of the trip.
This was my first major road trip in the 964 and overall, I put over 2500 roundtrip miles on my the car and she ran without a hitch. I averaged 24.5 MPG doing mostly 75-80 MPH. Not too bad. The best part was taking a detour on Route 299 W to Eureka from Redding. I had the pleasure of over 3 hours of 2nd & 3rd gear twisties and high-speed sweepers. What a terrific driving road and I highly recommend it if you ever have a chance. Only negative was that it put me way behind schedule getting to the bay area, but it was fun.
Here's the beast getting ready to depart from the bat cave at O'dark hundred.

Taking a lunch break at a local park in Medford.

Here's my girl developing some acne issues. Not too bad considering she is 15 years old. Seriously, I had every specimen of flying bug on my front bumper.

A cool mural in downtown Eureka, right across the street from the where I had dinner at a local pub.

I had the privilege of meeting up with Robert (LA964RS), owner and builder of his now-famous 964. We arranged a time for me to stop by on my way back up to Seattle. We checked out each other's cars, talked shop, and then he took us out for a spin. Bonus! Pictures do not do this car justice. It was great to see it in person and it was even more incredible to go for a spin. To feel 500HP push at your back on a twisty road was just downright impressive.
The light chassis and well set-up suspension made for a great ride. Thanks again, Robert!

One of our options for summer vacation is a ride from Portland OR, to Big Sur area. Does anyone have recommendations for a route? And of course cool places to stay?

I used to live in the SF bay area and there are so many wonderful roads in Marin County as well as all over northern California. Thanks for the comments everyone. Get out and drive this summer!

Jim....taking the R for a spin was really fun. I wish there was less traffic up on Mulholland so we could have really grabbed it by the scruff of the neck...but maybe next time....or up in Monterey.
You certainly win the Iron A$$ award for your travels...that's commitment and I know the long trips I took in my car before it was converted were some of my fondest memories. You, the car, the road, the fast food and the cheap hotels....simply AWESOME!
Great meeting you and you've got a great car.
See you in Monterey.

I count my blessings every day (well I try to, anyway, but I guess we all have days where you want to chuck it all) and I feel extremely fortunate to live in Northern California. We not only have an amazing number of incredible roads but the weather to be able to enjoy them year-round. Oh yeah, and the Dead at Shoreline last night - it could only happen in California!
