Default wheel bearing puller - home made

Recently I had to change my drivers rear wheel bearing, but didn't want to wait for porsche certified tool. So I made a few measurements, and headed to Home Depot to see what I could find. Figured I would share these parts for any interested parties. Total cost was about $30 or so for parts.

Just reverse tool to seat new bearing. I did freeze bearing and heat trailing arm with cheap propane torch. Also froze hub before installing.

Hope this helps.

Nice job and good info! How did you break the axle bolt loose and how do you plan to re-torque it to spec? Are you using impact or a big breaker bar?

I broke the axle nut loose with a 1" breaker bar plus extension. I broke two 1/2" breaker bars before I bought a 1" bar.

I retorqued it with the same set up, but no torque wrench. I knotched the nut after I set it.

I also developed my own rigging for removing/instaling the bearing, and based on what I've read from others here, and how difficult it was to get mine started out, I doubt that a slide hammer would have any effect. Bearing's just too tight. Heat usually is required, even with a threaded rod for removal.

i didnt need any heat at all. i used a bigger threaded rod, and it really came right out without any issues.

Thanks for the great idea!!!!!
