Believe it or not, I think the car is fairly valued. Protosport is an authorized Protomotive dealer. If you check out the turbo forums, you will see lots of guys get their stuff upgraded to the Protomotive stuff and they get silly HP out of them.
I figure a well built turbo add-on is going to cost you $5-6k in parts. A rebuild is going to add another $6-10k.
I would get a PPI done by another shop, just to eliminate any doubts.

If I had the cash, I would be stealing that car from under you. jk

Let us know what you decide. If you want to buy my car, I will buy that one.

As always, try to get a lower price, but I feel that the car described is certainly worth $22K

Remember, if you get an all original car, then just suspension and clutch upgrades will run you $2-4k.

I pm'd you my number.

Maybe i missed it but was the compression lowered? Is there an intercooler? What boost is it running? A good turbo is a complete system and when done correctly can give you long trouble free use. But if it was installed on the cheep you may have future problems. If the car's PPI is good and the turbo was designed and installed with longevity in mind then it could be a nice buy at that price.

IMO, anything under $19k would be a very good deal. I would not hesitate to pay $20k if PPI was clean. But I can't keep a car stock either so these mods appeal to me. It's a buyer's market and it sounds like he's very motivated...$17k?Doesn't seem to have an intercooler since a rear spoiler was not added.

No intercooler , but the compression was lowered and the engine was built up to handle turbo. Looking at it tomorrow. Probably offer 19k and see what he says..

find out what the compression is. I would guess that it might not be fun to drive without the turbo. You might also find out what the option is (cost) to add an intercooler. Good luck with the ride.

Wellcraft290:

I don't know details, but I don't think anything was "slapped" on. He is an attorney and had it done a local shop with great reputation. Poor workmanship would have haunted that shop for years!

Bates you know the owner? I think it is a very good car and is very clean. It is going for a PPI hopefully this week and I would know more. I am conflicted, but would you be there for the PPI? I plan on using powertech in NJ.

It is just a far drive and have to take a day off of work to be there for a few hours.

Completely OT, but Ray, your avatar and car look amazing! Please post more pics in another thread. To the OP, best of luck with the PPI and keep us posted.

I do NOT know the car you are considering. My thoughts were about an '89 C4 I know well in the Cleveland area. Hope your PPI is as clean as can be expected.
