Hi,
This morning I went to change my policy over to the Porsche only to be told by Privelege that they no longer insure imported cars. I tried Hagerty but they wont cover it as an only car so I was wondering what companies you UK LHD owners use?
Thanks.
Jim.

Strange that companies are not covering imported cars now. Wierd. Anyway, mine is with Norwich Union via Carole Nash brokers. Try a broker as they' should know who will cover it!

My car is insured through Classicline although the Classic policy insists that it's a second car. In my experience few companies even ask if it's LHD or RHD. As Andy says, try a broker - I'd suggest A-Plan in Thatcham.

Have logged a call this morning with a broker so it will be interesting to see what they finally come back with but in the meantime I have found that Direct Line (Privelege's sister company!!) will insure a LHD car so I have moved over to them. £514.50 for 7000 miles, £250 excess. Not too bad I thought.

My LHD car has been insured with Direct Line for the last four years with no hassle at all. Leeds must be an expensive place to insure a car as I have no limit on the mileage, fully comp, car lives on the street in SE London and I pay less than £400 per year. Maybe you're a lot younger than me...

Am 32 with 5 years no claims. When I moved here I was surprised to see my insurance go up from what it was before considering it was parked on the street in central Brighton.

I have a US LHD 993. Its my only vehicle, and last year had no NCD, as had been overseas.
I am paying around 1500 gbp for my policy. Anyone know of a where I can get better value?
I am assuming that the folks with better value policies have this as their 2nd car, which makes a BIG difference.
Thanks!
Phil

No, my insurance is as my main car with max NCB. (I'm a named driver on the family car).
Furthermore, I know that most insurance companies nowadays look at lhd european cars as the same as UK models. All I had to do with my German import when I first insured it was prove it had a Thatcham approved immobiliser fitted.
However, models from Japan and USA generally will be more expensive to insure as they are different spec to UK models and therefore insurance companies in their infinite wisdom and rationality charge more for them.
