That looks like an old, discontinued Brembo F40 4-piston caliper. It was used on the Ferrari F40 and some Jaguars, I believe. That's a nice refinish job except the bolt holes should never be painted or powdercoated. That interferes with getting it torqued down properly.

A front side pic would help, but they look like 928S4/993 front calipers, you can't measure the pistons like that, if you go uder the seals and measure the widest part of the pistons they are probably 36/44, it's quite normal for the bolts and external line to be painted the same as the rest of the caliper, it is in fact how they all come from Porsche.
The pad retainers are typical Porsche springs, an F40 caliper would have twin pins.
W/o seeing the front side, there is an out side chance that it's a big red. The difference between the big red and 928S4/993 caliper is the height of the pads, 928S4/993 pad is ~132x48mm, big red ~132x58mm
the difference between the 928S4 and the 993 is trailing vs leading mount.
There is one other front axial mount version of the 928S4/993 caliper that was used on 964t and 964RS, but that version had extended mounting pads that don't appear to be on those.

Again, a front side pic is needed,
this is a 928S4/993/964RS/964 t front caliper
this is a Big Red
The big red is ~ 10mm taller and so visually looks chunkier and it has the lump in the middle of the front side

Ok, now that I've seen your photos, it seems pretty clear that these are not big reds, but 993nb.
What would be the approximate cost difference between going with the 993 parts in front rather than the adapters?
Thanks again for lending your expertise.

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist....just wanted to be sure because it seems that everything I do is wrong the first time! I'm going to go with the black lettering, though.

You'll have to do some shopping, 993s are being parted out all over the place. The 993RS parts are going to be expensive
