Default Daylight Running Lights

Is it difficult to convert the 964 to have daylight running lights? There is a place for a relay in the front fuse box, however I am not sure it is wired. Has anyone tried this?

Hi Duck - further to Breale01's mention to our Ramp post - we did reply to him on a pm -- we're providing that info here for you and others who may be interested in the Daytime Running Lights -- it was an easy fix with the exception that we discovered that the connector for our fog lights had never been connected from the factory. Once we got those working it was simple.

We added a relay into the spot in the panel which is reserved for a Daytime Running Light relay, but which in your car will be blank - it is R63. We actually went to an auto wrecker and got a relay from a 90 vintage Passat. The relay is purple and the part # is: VWAudi 431 951 253G -- there is also another set of #'s on the relay: V23124-B52-X372. We simply added that relay and our daytime running lights were in working order!

BTW, for a point of reference, I called my local VW dealership and the relay is still available at $49 Canadian. Now to scour for a used one and compare pricing.

Cheers.

If I understand correctly, the fog lights are used as the daytime running lights?

How do the lights function when the headlights are one? When the high beams are on?

Dave - if the headlights are off, the "running lamps" or fog lights are on. If the headlights go on, the fog lights go off. If the headlights are on, you turn on the fogs by pulling the dash switch to turn them on. I have the lamps on... you can see in my avatar pic. Just required plugging in a relay.

Put my Daytime Running Light relay in today.

By far the easiest mod I've done so far!

Thanks for the input, guys.

Cheers

i'm tempted to do something with mine, just not sure what, i dont have my fogs fitted... maybe some neonz lol - seriously though, tempted to either refit fogs, or put something in the indicator lense. then move the indicator around to the side... or put something in the side.

or just not bother

As I am in Canada, my fog lights are my DRL. What I would like to do, is replace my fog lights with brake cooling ducts, and then somehow hook up low beams as DRL. Any suggestions on how to do that.

When I go to the pelican(Volkswagen) site, and put in the part #431 951 253G it comes up as a "Genuine Porsche Part" Around $25.00.

I found the Bosch part # 0332014134 from a web supplier for $9.95USD. Works great. I like the having a little more visibility on the road with all those SUV's.

I wonder if there are any other cool features that require very little work. I put the bulb in the oil temp guage and have the green light come on when the PDAS system engages. I guess I am amused by little things.
