Default self oil change goes in logbook?

Title says it all really - for those who do their own oil changes, do you log these in the service book? Also - if you do your own service (12k, 24k etc.), what is the best way of putting this in the service book? I read of somebody getting their local shop, which was confident of the ability of the owner to do the work well, to stamp the book for them, but I assume it's OK to just write something in there yourself?
Cheers, A.

I do that with my daily driver because it's still under warranty. With the P-car I don't bother. I have an Excel spreadsheet where I update all the work I've done, and a 3-ring binder where I keep the receipts.

I write all my maintenance on the blank pages in the back of the handbook with dates and mileage. I also keep receipts if I have work done by others.

Got this tip from someone on this forum:
I write up my own work receipts. One for each garage 'session.' Same as what I'd get back from the garage if I was taking it in every time the whim hit me.

I made up a basic, generic garage receipt form in Excel format. Date, address, odometer, parts lists, parts prices (each/sum), one of the lines gets the general description of what 'the mechanic' did (R&R tune-up pieces, adjusted valves...).

("Hrs worked: n/a". No charge. On the house. )

Comes out to be 1 page long.
Save it, Print it out -- and stuff that print in the receipts folder.
Haven't touched my log book. But I've got something north of a dozen Lonnie's Garage receipts.

I scratch the dates and mileage into the paint inside my decklid.

I purchase a leather-bound log book and document everything except for re-fueling. I will also write up the next scheduled maintenance. Documented maintenance is a selling point when that time comes, and it is handy to pull out the book to see when any maintenance item is coming due. I write the date and mileage on each new oil and on the exposed seal of the air filter when those are changed.

Yes, and I actually do write the mileage, oil type and date on my oil filter on gaffer's tape, just as a reminder.

The marriage license was tatooed on my... oh nevermind. ;-)

I use a system similar to Ilko. I have an Excel spreadsheet with a separate worksheet page for each year. On that page I put the date and mileage that it came off the road in the fall, records of all work that was done over the winter (including work description and part numbers), the date it went back on the road in the spring and records of any further work done during the driving season. All parts receipts are kept chronologically in a separate file folder.

BTW I almost pee'ed myself when I read the sign on deep-uv's avatar!
