Any advice on which shock/spring combo to buy?
Hi guys,
My 964 has completely worn shocks and springs. I'm looking to purchase some new ones and know nothing about suspension. These would be for road use only as I've no desire to track the car as yet. I'm not looking to spend a fortune either. Any suggestions on which combo is best for me that wont cost the earth?
Cheers

Personally I think the H&R springs and Bilstein HDs are perfect for road use. The Reds springs are stiffer than the green springs. Both are progressive so the car won't "crash" over bumps.

Thanks, that's great. I'll start to have a look around at prices.
You say the reds are stiffer. I assume that will mean less body roll. What would you recommend for a sunday afternoon road car, greens or reds. I'm not a lover of feeling every bump in the road.

I've always liked the Koni adjustable shocks. They can be pretty soft when you have company in the car, or quite stiff for the track or a nice mountain road. I also have the H&R reds and I'm happy with them. If you want softer springs, you can go with Eibach. Their springs are also progressive, but less stiff than H&R.

Better. But cost 2x more. KW is even better. And JIC is tons better. But cost 3x more. The OP seems to be on a budget so I didn't delve into the higher end of the spectrum

I'd agree with the H&R/Bilstein setup. If you are using the car for road work only I'd go with the Greens. The Reds are really designed for the additional weight of the Turbo and are a tad too harsh for our potholed roads.
The PSS 9/10 setup is very good - but, if you're like me, you would never adjust them and you would have wasted a whole bunch of money.
Buying from the US at the moment isn't anything like as attractive as it was when I bought mine at the back end of 2007 - at nearly $2/£. Surprisingly, Pelican's price is only a few dollars more now than it was then but the exchange rate will hit you bad and I believe HMC&E are getting tougher with the postal service in charging import duty and VAT too.
By the time you buy the bits and get them fitted and a geo done you'll be very lucky to get away with anything less than £1K.

Keep the thoughts coming guys because I'm in this position too, however mine's half weekend fun road driving and half track. Having been in Demonfish's PSS9 equiped car I know how good that is on track but am interested to hear other peoples opinions of their different set ups e.g. H&R coilovers, bilstein + reds, KW clubsport,.....

Great DE suspension set up and very good for spirited driving on isolated country roads.
