Painted rear reflector and dietary musings:
RL's,
Just got this back on after paint; looks the biz I think. The paint came out as flat, smooth and as high a DOI as the finest of other Porsche paintwork. Sorry for the cheezy photos; not much room round the panzer while in storage/purgatory, but - full joy with the resulting look.
And thanks to LA964R for the inspiration confirmation, am working hard to keep up ! I think a Shaw/Getty Ducktail might complete & complement the look with understated splitter on the front "balancing" the look - I'm really on the fence with aero.
I'd love to pull more weight out and am nearly out of dietetic targets. To wit; all interior and engine sound padding gone, all rear upholstered bits gone, Recaro PP's in, RS Perlon and RS door cards in, Fabspeed Euro Pre/Primary BP/Secondary BP/Tip done, Heater Blower delete done. I think next easiest diet target with the best weight loss "payback" is the bonnet/wing, no ?
I'm not sure (yet) that I would want to gut the bumpers.
Opinions invited.

I personally prefer the strip across the back of the car that incorporates the tail lights and center reflector. To me it's one of the traits of a 911.
I also use all 4 lights in the center reflector housing:
- 2 as back up lights - contrary to popular belief, they can be really useful in dark areas when you don't want to hit a garbage can for instance
- 2 as additional brake lights because you can never have enough brake lights, especially on a car that goes fast and can stop equally as fast

Ilko, I remember seeing that pic of your car before, but I just noticed that it apears that you don't have rear side windows...I know you have basically eliminated the heat and air on your car, but is this some new mod you're working on???

Went to weigh the bloody thing @ brothers shop and scales were on der fritz, so no joy prior to winter hibernation. I gotta believe that I've pulled out ~ 300 lbs thus far. I like the notion of Ruf aluminum bumper beams and the Getty Ducktail/base as possibilities. Will pull windscreen washer bottle and give some consideration to jettisoning A/C & related. Lightweight battery likely as well I 'spose. What other targets ? Any ideas of lb.savings on Ruf beams vs. OE ?
I'd love to get to >9lbs./HP range.
Counsel me, my Liege

I'm at 2740 lbs, with about a gallon of gas in the tank and a very small amount of windshield washer fluid. Keep in mind, my car did not come with sunroof or radio and my tail is slightly lighter than a motorized wing, but nothing to write home about.
REMOVED:
- Exhaust: stock headers + heat exchangers are very heavy. I have custom headers with a small dual out muffler now. IMO the exhaust would make the most difference to modify, since it's the heaviest and is in the rear as well.
- Rear Shelf (or rear seats in most cars)
- Seats: changed with very light weight Recaro Pole Positions
- Undertray
- Heater
- A/C - got rid of the compressor, rubber lines, and condenser in the front, but left the solid lines and the rest of the stuff that's under the driver side fender.
ADDED:
- Roll Bar
- Fire Extinguisher
- 6-Point Belts
- Big Brakes
- Supercharger
- Secondary Oil Cooler
You could also get rid of the front and rear bumper supports, but I wouldn't recommend it.
How heavy are your current wheels in comparison to a Cup I set for instance?

I think you can get to about 2700 lbs without too much issue by gutting the interior and the little things mentioned. To get down to 2500 lbs took pulling the gas tank and removing all the climate control as well as a lot more little things. Getting to 2200 lbs required the car to be completely torn apart and every single bit that was not essential removed, grinding off extra bits of metal and a huge amount of effort.
Decide what you want to accomplish (and why) and what your budget is before starting. Going half-way the first time and then paying even more to repeat a lot of the process is not the cost-effective way to do it. I speak from experience.
My $0.02: Working hard to lighten a DE only car or a car that sees significant time on the street is not worth the effort. While taking out 200 lbs might make a good driver about 1 second faster on a 3 mile track, it will make very little difference to an intermediate level driver. Spend the money on track time and having fun and not fretting about the weight.
