Default Racecar Project - Engine #2 Connecting Rods

After considering a lot of different options, I have now decided on what I'm going to build for my new engine. I decided to go with a Pankl Titanium connecting rod with a longer length than my previous Carrillo steel stock 127mm length connecting rods. These rods will remove approximately 180g (.4lbs) each from the recipricating mass. This should help the engine rev faster and live longer at the higher RPM range.

I think I remember reading somewhere that with respect to engine inertia, each gramme saved off the reciprocating mass is worth ten from the car's mass. If this is correct, when you fit the appropriate 9m short skirt piston you will save another 120g per cylinder giving 1.8kg (4lb) overall, having the effect of 40kg from the weight of the car. Seems about right, now where did I leave that maths book?

Quite nice!

(Now, let's see... what other part just became the engine's 'weak link'?... It's a grail, man -- a grail.)

Thanks for showing the parts along the way.

The next weak link is the factory Mahle race piston and wrist pin and will be addressed by a 9M engineered piston specific to my application. The piston will be lighter, stronger, better engineered, with a ring package that will reduce friction.
