Anyone imported 964RS to USA?
Hi all,
With the dollar getting stronger finally!! just wondered if anyone here has imported a 964RS from Europe, i recall seeing one for sale at Blackhawk collections but apparently they had problems getting DOT approval. Is it feasible to do?
thanks

Steve Patti in Boerne, Tx may imported a couple for people. I spoke with him a little more than a year and some ago about an RSA he had for sale when I was shopping mine. I can't find an email or website for him, but someone here may know him.

I think Joe may know him as well. I think he had a pretty good network of people when he was searching for his RS IIRC. Joe can likely give you good feedback on a US conversion too as I think his is federalized.
Either way, that is a fabulous car. I hope you find one and get it over here!

Yes Wallace Labs in Texas was suggested - so will follow up - also looking at 993 RS as a comparison to ! but will first see how much effort required - surprised though that not many more are imported?

A question: If you take the purchase price and the federalization cost would the re sale value be greater considering the rarity value of an RS in the USA?
For example this one http://pistonheads.com/sales/646240.htm at £33k ($53k) +$5k = $58k

With the £pound sterling relatively weak against the Euro a number of 964RSs/clubsports have been snapped up by purchasers in Germany (taking them back home so to speak).
If you are after the best to import to the US you might have some competition from Europe. The best people to email/speak to are Paul Mclean (http://www.gtclassics.co.uk/) in UK, and Thomas Schmitz (http://www.germansportscars.de/englischstart.html) in Germany (they actually have a kind of business partnership sourcing and selling the best quality RSs in Europe).
You can register with the Porsche Club of Great Britain forum for free (you don't have to be a member). There is an active 964RS section and you'll be very welcome to come along for a chat. My handle is 'RSGulp' on there. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tt.asp?forumid=54

Had a look at Thomas site - nice cars but quite pricey - over $110K for good examples by the time you converts and add taxes you could be in GT3RS territory here - best way i reckon is from the UK where prices seem reasonable - Gmund cars have one - but seems its been on for a while and not sold any issues? _its guards red one - www.gmundcars.com
