Anthony, I've not been to the track before, so I have no comparison. The track surface seemed Ok to me but in the sprint race it did begin to break up in some corners.

Rob, no body improvements will be made, I liked the way the car was before. I may try to repair the door and hood, but the bumper and fender will be replaced. I have other things that I'm working on for the engine and front sway bar.

Ouch. Really glad you are ok.

If you look at it this way, I think someone was definitely looking out for you as it could have been much, much worse:

Deer running at 30mph = 44ft/s.
Distance from headlight to middle of car = 2ft.
Time for deer to travel 2ft = 0.045s.

That's not a large margin of error.

At least you got a family bbq out of the deal, venison rump is delicious ......

Geoffrey

Sorry to see your season end this way, but glad it's only an off-season hiatus. As has been said, bad- and good-luck rolled into one.

I'm sure you'll bring the car back to it's winning ways and the ethanol option on the engine should be fascinating. Will an e85 racing engine have similar expected service life to a petrol or do the lower temperatures allow for potentially longer rebuild intervals?

I don't expect a shorter engine life from e85, and I would not run a Porsche racing engine more than 100 hours which is my current rebuild cycle.

Deer - Bummer, they are a worry here to, must have seen a dozen or so between here and LRP, w/ 1 right outside the track, a bloody mess by the side of the road.

New Motor - exciting

Glad you are well after this.

How high is the fence surrounding the track?

There is no fence (to speak of) around the track.

Sorry to hear about the car but glad you're okay.

My tow vehicle is actually in the shop right now to the tune of $18k damage after hitting a deer on the way back from the track in late August (me, family, trailer, and p-car all undamaged).

Over the weekend I pulled apart the damage on the car and have begun to repair it. I think I'm going to try to save the hood, bumper, and door by repairing them. I started fitting the fender and everything looks good after straightening the inner fender apron. I need the door and hood straight before I go any further to ensure everything lines up and I have factory panel gaps again. Although the oil cooler is only slightly bent, I am replacing it anyway and am only waiting on a metric to AN fitting that I need for it. I straightened the oil cooler mounting brackets and that seems to fit nicely again.

Before anyone asks, another project I was working on is a set of aluminum tables so I can set the car down and corner balance it and align it with strings. I welded up the tables over the weekend and am only waiting to machine the feet which will be adjustable. So far they seem to work fine. I'll post more about them in another thread.

Over the weekend I went back to the dyno with the car to test a different exhaust and shorter intake trumpet as well as verify the power after running the engine for 100 hours and before I take it apart. I'll post more about that in a separate thread too.

wow! I'd say you got lucky there pal. we've got deer crossing the main road by our home on a regular basis. we live right on the Ohio River and so the deer cross the road to access the water. I've nearly hit a few as the trees border right on the road so you don't have much notice of one coming into the road.

hope to see the car fixed soon.

what type of lift is that you've got? can you still remove the drivetrain when using it?
