Great clip! I've driven VIR and it's a great track. What speeds was your class hitting on the back stretch? That tight left hand corner just before the chicane is tough to take at anything other than slow or coasting it seems like...never could find a good line through that curve.

Nice video. Got chopped at the end by that silver car. How did the race go for you?

2 questions: 1) is that a MkV R32 as a safety car? 2) What camera mount are you using for your Aiptek? Mine bounces wildly even at the newly repaved Lime Rock...

I shift to 5th on the back & front straights. I think that's ~150 with my tires & gearing.

Yes I believe it was a R32. I have an IO Port camera mount for the aiptel...seemed to work ok.

Nice.

Interesting to compare VIR with UK circuits, all I can say is that you must have some really special grass that stops you sliding all the way into the armco if you get it slightly wrong? The equivalent UK circuit is probably Goodwood which is also pretty much flat out all the way around. I'd also be nailing 150mph on the back straight in 5th like you are at VIR. Goodwood however is a bit of a throwback: for historical reasons it also has just grass on the sides of the track, rather than the gravel traps that now surround all modern UK circuits - which is fine when you know where you are going but could be a bit of a problem if you don't.

Do you not have data acquisition? I can tell you that in my GT3 with cup gearing and hitting sixth gear and running 2:03's that I am hitting high 140's on the front and mid 150's on the back. WIth that said, I would venture to say that the guesstimate of 150 is way off.

Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed watching y'alls group that weekend. Some really beautiful 964's (Cups, RSA, C2's, etc).

Colin, VIR is actually one of the more forgiving tracks on the east coast Here's some video of me in my old 964 turbo at Watkins Glen, Mosport and Daytona, all of which have lots of nice hard things to hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULn1znKSil8

Dell I do have data, but haven't pulled it off the card yet (yes, I'm that lazy ). I think I was remembering my 964 turbo gearing for speed where the bottom of 5th was 150. I'll get the data in the next day or so and confirm the exact number. I was shocked to need 5th on the front straight.

On a 2:10 lap my top speed is 140.x on the back and 138 on the front via DL-1.

I'm not surprised you are in 5th quickly w/ the G50/10, but I never hit 5th on the front and usually not on the back w/ my G50/05. Per the data I hit 138 before I redline 4th, I think the G50/10 is only around 130 or so. Wish I had a /10!

Btw, just did some gear calcs, and I shift into 5th at 140, so I am probably in the 142 range on the front straight and 145 range on the back. The g50/10 is not that different.

I think those are about the speeds Bob was seeing, so that sounds right. I don't think you would see above 133 in 4th though. The gear chart below is below redline and about 3-4 mph low at 6,500, but has the G50/10 at 129, so probably 133-134 at redline I would think. I'm sure I can't get above 138 in 4th and I have taller gearing.

Try your calcs with 25.9" tire diameter (265/660 dunlop slick) and 6800 redline (which s what the cups are).

Don't have a calc, just lifted that chart off of Bill V I think, but forgot about the slicks.
