I don't know that there is a warning tab, have never seen one. There are wear sensors, that unless they have been cut, should let you know when the pads are down to about 10% or so. And that will turn a light on the dash on, not make noise. I have always had some brake squeek, ranging from very minor to pedestrian scaring. I live with it. Couple of questions, do the pads have the anti-squeel spides on them, has the squeel just started, and has it been fairly damp there. Mine get really bad after it's been damp, but a couple of hard brake applications on the highway at speed clear it up for a while. Good luck.

Thanks. No the sound is new. It has been dry here in Seattle, amazingly, so damp is not it. I am going to change out the brake pads and see if that clears it up. Any suggestions on pads for normal street driving would be good though I do drive it hard from time to time. :d

I have Pagid Blues, and they are great for street driving. I slathered generic parts store anti-squeal all over the back + sides of them, and greased everything I could get to (pistons, pins, spiders etc.) and they don't ever squeal. When I first bought the car, it had textars with some residual anti-squeal coating, and squealed like a pig!
My front brakes always squeek or squeal when backing up. The calipers were recently rebuilt, and the brake pads are new. I don't think this is all that unusual.
In fact, my brakes always seem to go through periods when they squeal. I've fought this off and on for years and have given up. Everything I've tried to stop the squeal always works......for a few weeks to a couple months, but it always comes back.
If I was going to change pads out, and didn't do any track work, I would put factory pads, oem spiders, and rotors if it needed it. Best bet for no squeel is to do it how it was designed. But, I track, I have 993 turbo brakes, and at this point don't really care all that much about the noise(wife hates it though, so she drives it less than she used too. Maybe not a bad thing). Best of luck.

Absolutly. Kid seat in the back, and she and my 3 year old take it. But, as it starts to turn more and more into a track car, and gets less and less comfortable, she drives it less and less. At some point I will get her one of her own, but that's way down the line. Her daily is a stick, so she is pretty good with a clutch, though now I have to remind her in her car that she doesn't have to drive around town at the same revs as the 911(finally got her to understand not lugging the 911 was a better idea than lugging it). Now if I could just get her to the track.....
