"buy a couple spares and throw in the trunk like DME relay?"

That would be good insurance!

Here's what I carry:

'88 911 3.2 - DME relay, coil, fuel pump, fan belt, rotor, oil

I may have missed the answer but can the Bosch Super Blue coils be used with our ignition system? V. Popular with the old v-dub's and seem to be bullet proof.

Yes, that coil will function properly with either a a CDI or an IDI
(inductive discharge ignition).

Loren,
what is the answer to this question? .. is the answer to buy spares of the silver?

Thanks Loren.
Only reason i ask is that i can get them locally for about a third of what the p-dealer wants (and right away vice waiting two weeks!) and i remember using them way back when. One concern i had is they are designed for points style ignition.
Do you know if our ignition leads plug right on to them or do i need to replace/modify the connector?

Based on what I've been reading, perhaps I'll buy an new pair of Bosch Super blue and keep the Bosch Silvers as spares. How much can you get them for?

Both coils are made in Brazil.....can we assume of the same quality?
