Default Which suspsension upgrade?

I need some advice, and am split between 2 options...

PSS9s or bilstein sport/hds with eibach or h&r greens?

Mainly road use, no real intention of tracking the car, though have a driver training day at Prescott hill this year.

Will probably do an autobahn run too, + some mountain roads in europe.

The PSS9s seem expensive for what I need, but wondered what your experinces are?

I have gone both routes. Tried the Bilstein's with B&G springs and was not happy with the setup. I currently have PSS9's and have been very happy with them. The car handles much more neutrally and I have a much greater range of ride height options. Keep in mind though that an adapter kit is needed to fit the PSS9's to an early car.

You will read nothing but positive reviews of the H&R/Bilstein setup on Rennlist. It consistently rates as one of the best upgrades owners do to their cars (a big part of it is that by this time most 964 shocks are shot).

I just bought an H&R green / Bilstein setup (that I will install next week) because my 1990 C4 is mostly street and on crappy roads, especially after the brutal Chicago winter my area just went through.

If you've got nice smooth roads in your area, you can go with the Reds (stiffer turbo springs) as two local 964 owners just did this an advised me to get the Red turbo springs. However, I ended up going with the standard Greens because I wanted wanted a firm street ride without excessive ride impact harshness.

PSS9s are not a simple swap on a 1990 C4, I believe you have to do a custom modification to the mount area to get it to work. In 1991 the shock tower mounts changed and I think the PSS9s work for that. As they say "search is your friend"

I have JIC on my 964 and it's a wonderful suspension. Happy on the road and track. You can specify what spring rates you want - easy to orient your car more toward street if you want.

I too would do the JIC Cross suspension (again) for a street/track car. If you are restricted to your two choices, do the HDs and H&Rs, which I did to a different cat and was very happy with on the street.

Mines on bilstein/eibach setup and works fine.
The roads are a mess near me with lots of speed bumps, any lower or harder and its a pain to drive.

I have the H&R reds, and koni's. If I was content to keep the car as a street car, would be very happy with that set-up. I am considering going in a different direction, as the car is turning into more and more of a track car, but as a street car, with the koni's turned to about 1/3 stiffness, have been very happy.

Just had my original shocks and springs replaced for Bilsteins with MO30 springs. Well pleased, although i have nothing else to compare with other than the originals which were 'knackered'. Replaced the bushes in the front lower arms for Powerflex (black) at the same time, so steering and suspension feels a whole lot better. Car now feels taught and planted.

There is a difference in ride height between Eibach & H&R.

Eibach say 1" rear & 1.3" front. http://eibach.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.exe...00997900002592

H&R say 1.3" rear, 1.5" front. http://hrsprings.com/scripts/appguide.php?Mode=Application+Guide&SubMode=Find2&Year=1990&ModelID=380& q=1990%20|%20Porsche%20|%20911/964%20C2/C4

There is some small adjustment but I believe H & R could be too low for normal mixed street use. I have Bilstein + Eibach.

Thanks all for your replies. I'll go with the bilsteins, and most likely the h&rs.
I'll let you know how I get on, may do this sometime in June.
