Quite a surprise as well to find an archive photo of our Kermit green 964 Cup car (#18) as it was on display at the Sotherby's Porsche Club auction. Shame nobody else had the nerve to buy it .....
I'll post the car on the register as soon as I get a chance.
That is correct. The site is dedicated to all the derivatives of the 964 RS. Lightweights/Basics, Tourings, Clubsport N-GT, Cup and even the Carrera 4 Lightweight (which i haven't added as yet).
I think i have a few details on your car. Only info i have picked up from this site though. If you would like to add to these details, or have any questions, please contact me.
I'll ask this here in case others are wondering... At least in my browser (Safari 3.1.1), when I review the database I can't select any car. It'd be nice to select the car, see the details stored for it, and view pics of it. Am I doing something wrong?
Also, is there space in the "general" section for including a short bio on the car? Some of the Cups have a fun history having raced at places like Monte Carlo, etc.
Unfortunately, one of the main problems i came across when building the site was owners' objections to information on their cars being shared with others. Which i can understand.
Some owners didn't mind but this made things very difficult for me. So, in the end, i decided to show no information on the website. I'd rather it disappoint by showing not enough rather than too much.
I am planning on having a small thumbnail photo of every car as the cursor moves over a chassis number.
I hope this doesn't put people off visiting the site, but security is my main concern.
Also, at a later date, if the database continues to grow, i may well consider a 'members area' whereby people would have to verify themselves through certain security measures.
Martin - so long as you are not sharing personal info (full name, address, email) I cant see anyone objecting to sharing the car history, current location (country at least), and a few high res photos.
Quite a few people i have spoken to have very strong views regarding the sharing of information on their cars.
For this reason i have chosen to structure the site as you see it. I can appreciate the frustration it probably causes but i'd rather cause a little frustration than all out war.
Hopefully this won't stop people visiting the site as many new features are in the pipeline.
Talking of 'new features', i am considering adding a 'Classified' section to the website. This would allow owners, whose cars are registered on the database, to advertise free of charge. Buying, selling, swapping 964 RS parts or even complete cars.
