Widest wheel possible on narrow-body 964?
#17
My oil line was flattened, using spacers you can avoid it, but might mean problems on the drivers sides with rubbing. I tried offset spacers, 17mm on the drivers side, 21mm on the passenger at first to clear it. Then I just flattened the oil line and went with 17mm both sides.
Mine are 993 turbo twists. They are 65et on the rear without the spacer. the spacer reduces the offset to 48et. You need to get as close to 50et as possible or you will have problems. I also think tyres play a big part in the rubbing issue as well.

Bill Verburg - Thanks for the very helpful link!
Larry Herman - Thanks for the very helpful specs, I am compiling this info to run the Speedlines on my track car as well. It helps to know that the setup you suggested is tried and tested!

I run Hoosier R6 285/30ZR18 on 10Jx18 Kinesis K28, ET66 with 23mm spacers. Full write up here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=367223.

Just remember that Larry has a top notch suspension with stiff springs on his car. If you don't run a full race suspension, I doubt you will fit such large tires. I run 235/265 dunlop slicks on 8f/9.5r, and they will rub when cold (the cup suspension is not as stiff as Larry's car).

kurquhart - Thanks for the link, very helpful!
38D - Thanks for the tip, good point. I am planning on running KW Clubsport suspension for the Euro-spec Carrera RS, is this setup anywhere near as stiff as Larry's to your knowledge?

Not even in the same area code. Let's just say my car is 996 cup car stiff.

I'm in the midst of stripping mine out before getting it sent in for seam-welding and roll-cage installation, which should help rigidity somewhat. I am curious to hear what else can be done though!

We were talking suspensions, and my stiffness reference was to that. My chassis is a plain old RSA non-sunroof shell with a Matter style roll cage.

Hate to bump an older thread, but I guess it's better than making a new one.
Will the 996 widebody turbo twists fit on a narrowbody 964? My friend has some that are 11" wide in the back and that are ET45.
Rolling fenders would not be a problem.

Don - Have a look at Bill's earlier link: http://members.rennlist.com/1976c38/index.html , in the 964 section (all the way down)
There is reference to 18" 996 rims, but I don't think this is applicable to the 996 TT rims, it might refer to 18"s fitted to the 996 Carreras. From reading everything in this thread though, I don't think they'll fit and even if they do, it will be just barely, even if you roll the fenders.
Good luck!

^^^ 19's on a 964 are a bad idea. I have seen many attempt it only to revert back. BTW you realize this dates back to 2009?
