Default Widest wheel possible on narrow-body 964?

Hi all,

Tried searches on both the 964 and Wheel/Tire forums, but to no avail.

I'd like to run 18" Speedline replicas on my narrow-body 964, but the extent of the body modifications I am willing to do is rolling the fenders. So what is the widest width wheel/tire I can run without rubbing?

In relation to my failed searches, I saw a post by one guy who ran 18" Speedlines (8"/front, 10"/rear) with rolled fenders and no rubbing issues, so I would assume that this would be a safe bet to go with, correct?

Just want to double check!

Thanks!

275/35 RA-1's on 10" wheels, aggressively lowered and rolled.
Forget the ET but of critical import.

My other car has stock TT's with 275/35 MPSC II's + 7mm spacers, no rolling - no problem

I got 18 x 11s on the back. They only rub if you corner really hard or hit a bump really hard.

What size tires are you running on the 18 x 11 rear rims - what do you run on the front wheel width and tire size? That may be comfortable on the left side - but I would get a bit more careful on the right side wear the oil tube runs along the inside of the wheel well. Are you running any spacers?

So what's the point then?

I run 18x9F & 18x10R. I do not recommend the 9s for a street car as I have to run steering stops and they still rub. 8.5s are probably about the widest you can run on the front.

225 on the front 8.5 x 18 wheel. 265 on the rear, 10 x 18 rear wheel. 17 mm spacers on the rear. No rub at all. Sticks to the road like glue. Not sure you could get anymore under the arches unless you rolled them.

Well I think they are 11s anyway. I was not present when the shop took them off so I don't know about spacers.

Tires are 265/35 rear and 225/40 front. I believe the fronts are 8.5/18.

If you look at the rear tires it appears the tires are too small because the sidewalls round over.

So what's the point then?
I should have added that by hard cornering it has only happened once that I know of and from bumps only a few times. The shop says it looks like it only happens every now and then.

Yes to the front, the rear will need about a 15mm spacer

Thanks for the great replies everyone, very helpful!

Larry Herman - Would you be able to share the following with those less knowledgeable than yourself?

1. What offset are the 18 x 9s and 18 x 10s?
2. Are you running the 18 x 9s and 18 x 10s on the track?
3. If no, what is your track set up in terms of rims/tires? (I am trying to set mine up for the track)

Thanks!

This is for my race car. I am running 18x9s with Hoosier 245/35s on the front and 18x10s with 285/30s on the back. The front offset is 64mm with a 7mm spacer for a total offset of 57mm. The rear offset is 51 with a 4mm spacer for a total offset of 47mm. This setup puts the tires exactly in the middle of the fender wells, with no rubbing on the trailing arms or outer fender lips. My car has full mono-*****, so there is almost no sideways deflection in the suspension. If you run narrower tires, you will have a little more margin.

IF you like the wide tires and wheels for looks, go for it. As for performance, it will suffer as will comfort. If you go to the track, you need to be concerned about rubbing that may occur in the inside of the rear tires against the swing arm and the oil line. If you then space out, you rub the fender. This rubbing may not ever occur on the road, but at the track under load going around corners you may have issues.

Sorry, I like 16" and D-90's at that.

Would I need to flatten the oil line and/or roll the fenders? I'd prefer not to do either.
