Does anyone have any pics of a dash with a CDR-220 installed? Just curious how it looks and fits...the only pics I could find searching around were of poor quality.
Currently I have an intermittent CD-2 and, now that I'm using the 964 to commute more (and usually stuck in traffic for 30 minutes), would really like a radio, particularly that I could plug my iPod into.
Best price I've found so far is $495 at SW Stereo, which includes the modified faceplate and 964 wiring adapter. (I'm not interested in jamming in some ricer radio.)

You might want to check the following ebay link (no affiliation)
Same as CDR-220 but with GPS. I would not bother with the GPS as the new portables (Nuvi) are much better, but it's a good deal for the new radio. This radio might need the modified face plate.

I got my CDR-220 with modified face plate from http://www.beckerautosound.com/ for $350 and a ‘plug and play’ wiring harness from www.swstero.com for $50. It looks great and matched the interior very well.

Many thanks for the pics...actually looks better in the car than I thought it would.
I checked with Becker AutoSound and they do have the CDR-220 at $250 for the original version and at $350 with the modified face plate (SW Stereo wanted $450 for just the radio with the modded faceplate).
My understanding is that the GPS version would require the different faceplate as well, which tacks an extra $100 onto your total cost.

The GPS radio is a great deal, but I would just get the CDR-220 from Becker as that GPS is now obsolete. Becker also offers a wiring harness for about $12, but it did not work in my ’92 (I was converting from a factory CR-1). SW Stereo had the harness that was an exact fit for $50.

I did a tremendous amnt of research while looking for a stereo for my 964. It is my daily driver. I bought it with a crappy older Pioneer installed, and just couldn't take it anymore. Almost all of the head units I looked at, that had above average fidelity, were for younger customers - more flash than bang. No way would they have looked "correct" in a Porsche, IMO.
Via R-list I was directed to a thread abt the Traffic Pro by Becker for Porsche - $299.00 on Ebay. I bought one. I does look very "correct" in the dash. Soon after I installed it, I pulled it to to do a full sound system upgrade with it as the head unit.
While it's sound reproduction isn't cutting edge - it is quite good (I'm a bit of a sound ****..), to spend more for cutting edge is tough to justify. There isn't room for a really good speakers / sub setup in these cars. The interior or the 911 isn't the best sound stage either, and they are not quiet enough to do justice to an expensive install.
I went with a system that I think will be an above average comprimise. Let me know if anyone wants details...
The Traffic Pro is a bargain, IMO. I bought a harness to integrate an iPod - not sure yet how / where it will go yet. True, the Nav portion is very limited - the avail maps are very dated. The interface and voice commands, however work very well for an in dash unit. For me, the Nav is a "nice to have" feature. I need Nav occasionally, and hate having a box stuck to my windshield. So this, as a all in one unit, works well enough.
For me it was a very nice interior upgrade.

I just put a CDR-210 in my 964 and recommend it highly. It has the right texture, looks, etc. for the period and yet is functional, without having technology that will become obsolete. It looks awesome and original.

CDR-210 is similar to CDR-220, but I believe it does have the Aux Input for an iPod or other devices. BTW, if ordering the radio from Becker, ask for the Aux Input cable – it’s only few $$.

The CR-210 and CDR-210 (cassette and CD versions respectively) are nice looking units that were actually used in the 1994 964 Speedster. They look great and the display is very readable. They do interface to the CDC-3 6 disk changer as well (but not to both that and an iPod). I put these in my '90 964 and I'm really happy with it. I also added a 360W Alpine amp under the passenger seat and I swapped out the original speakers for MB Quarts in the front and Alpines in the back. It made a real difference to the sound.
Good luck!

The CDR-210 in my 964. I have the same one in my 993.
