Default Mmmm, Brake Rotors!

I love it when I get brand new spanking parts (thanks to MS Road & Race). These rotors look so good, they should be in a museum! They are massive, the pictures don't do them justice. It's going to be a fun weekend in the garage

These are the two-piece 993TT rotors for the Big Red calipers. Pelican has them for $450-ish a piece.

No way!! I was just about to order a set of 965 through vertex. Was this a one time deal??? So the 993 rotors fit just fine??

Hi Carl, the 965 and 993TT rotors have the same dimensions: 322x32. The advantage of the 993TT rotors is that they are 1) floating and 2) lighter because of the aluminum hat. PM me if you want to buy a set and I'll give you the scoop.

They are not floating and they have steel hats.

965 and 993tt do have the same 322x32 annulus dimensions but AFAIK they are not interhangeable due to a slightly different o/s.

We've been trying to get to the bottom of this for a while and need someone w/ 965 to accurately measure that rotor's o/s

If the rotor o/s is different it will not be centered in the caliper throat.

Ilko has both and will measure for us.

o/s aside, where do you buy just the rotor once you're up for a new set and how many set can you go through before changing the hats??

Guys, the difference is 6mm. The hat of the 965 rotor is taller by 6mm.

Here's some pics:

Ilko, thanks that's perfect
to use the 993tt as is the best thing to do is to swap for 993 uprights & struts as described here or change the hats for some shorter ones

Yeah I wish I had 2K laying around to change the uprights and everything involved. How about a 6mm thicker bracket or could a 6mm spacer worked with longer bolts? Same idea has a wheel spacer!!

just an FYI, I believe that 928GTS 322x32 rotors will work.

and

928 S4 304x32 wil work w/ the shorter 993 front calipers

I just pointed out what would be best, not necessarily what most will chose to do.

other issues of the 964 steel upright w/ adaptor vs 993 aluminum w/o adaptor. not mentioned here, are weight and stiffness
