Engine Foam Pad replacement
Hi guys just got my new sound insulation pad for the engine compartment. Its pretty crappy just a big piece of foam basically....that nice rubber coating that the original has is not on the new ones. Im thinking about sending it back. Just letting you know in case any of you are going to order one. I may go with one of those silver ones. i dont think this thing would last 5 months.

I used "the ultimate soud pad" from APPBIZ on fleabay during my rebuilt proccess. It was pretty dense and had the rubber coating (better one than original --claim of manufacturer).1 year later it looks great and holds very well.If my memory serves me well it was about $99.00.

I took my disintegrated one out and left it out. You can hear a bit more of the noise from the engine compartment, but all Porsche engine noises are nice.

jgrosjean: I would not mind the engine noise, but what about the heat shield function? I would hate to bake the back of my rear "seats." You heave the experience--is this a realistic concern? Thanks.

Burning Brakes
Most worthless part on the car. Get rid of it and forget about it. It's not going to burn anything, and it doesn't do all the much for sound, either. Just my $0.02

edit: When i said engine compartment up there I really meant passenger compartment. I really do need a copy editor for everything I type. Dang.

The foam padding in my engine compartment was out of the car when I got it a year ago. Unfortunately it looks pretty messy in there as there are little bits of foam and lots of ugly orange glue (looks like surface rust at first glance) where the foam once was. I'd rather not pull the engine to address aesthetics. Was wondering if anyone knows of a product that I could apply to remove the unsightly glue without damaging the paint?

Nordschleife Master
Ah!
The vaunted factory "Heat Shield - Delete" option: Passenger area engine heating 'augmenter' & back-side warmer. ($895)
Available optionally in Paint to Match ($2300) and full leather trim ($1545)

A) Spray with something like GooGone and then Power wash - hot and high pressure like at a coin op car wash
B) Black spray paint Or whatever color the paint is under the pad. Is it body colored or something else?
Goo Gone makes a spray gel. I have NO IDEA THE IMPACT ON YOUR PAINT. So you should try a small spot in the engine compartment just to check it.

Hey Rob and all i just installed the ultimate sound pad (no affiliation) and Rob is right that thing is nice it has a layer of foil with fiberglass weave then a thick layer of Felt then a thick layer of foam rubber. It was a little work to get it in there even with the engine out but it looks so good. After i put it in i dont think that crappy Porsche one would have even survived the install.
