Default 964 Supercharged vs 996 GT3 w/bypass pipes

I own a 91 964 C4 with the TPC Supercharger and Intercooler kit on it. I was told that the car is rated at around 400 hp. My neighbor and fellow Porschefile owns a 996 GT3 with bypass pipes. We always play around on nice days and we wanted to see which car is faster in a straight line. Not on a track because the driver is a major part of fast lap times.

My car- 1991 964 C4 TPC Supercharger kit, weighs 3142 lbs
Friends car- 2004 996 GT3 bypass pipes, weighs 2925 lbs

Both cars have seats and a roll bar so the weights are similarly reduced.

Here was the test!!!!

964 in 4th gear at about 3200 rpms and around 70 mph.
996 in 4th gear and friend to scared to look at the dash.

WE GO!!

I immediately got a 1/2 car jump on him and then we stayed the same. At about 5800 rpms he began to slowly pull even with me by the time I reached 6200 he had reached about 3/4 of a car ahead of me. Then he shifted and I pulled next to him.

Traffic came and that was it. From 70 to 135 the GT3 just barely pulled me. He only began to pull me when he reached 6400 rpms in his car. As many know the GT3 has a really nice kick around 6400 rpms due to the Cams, and don't forget the 8200 redline.

I will get a chance to go against 996 and 997 GT3's at the VIR event in March.

You had some fun. No judgement toward that. But in the end, his is still a GT3 and your's a silicon implanted 964. Au naturale.
Keep us posted with regard to VIR. Be safe!

Yep, & the GT3 has soooooo much personality compared to a 964
I'll keep my "silicon implanted" 964, thanks

Oh, and I just sold my GT3. It was the Cupcar version by the way. Fast as hell on a race track but still didn't have as much personality as my 964

PS: Don't you guys go out & hurt yourself or somebody else pulling this crap on public roads

Jay,

Your car car is exceptionable. That my comment could provoke another photo of it is to our advantage. That you or anyone could understand what I'm putting into my 964 vs. cost to a GT3 is illogical. :-) Personality has a cost. Some understand. Other walk away.

Thanks! The GT3 is an awesome car but they have lost some of the personality of our cars & you are right, most people just don't get it

Jay,

Beautiful 964- love that color! So are you racing the spec Boxster? I keep debating going the Spec Boxtser route and running with POC... Also, why did you get rid of the Cup?

FWIW - I really want a Cup for DE fun - a 964 US Cup!

Sorry to hijack this thread....

JW, beautiful car, you should visit us sometimes on the turbo forum.

btw, in one of my weaker moments when thinking of selling my turbo, I test drove a GT3. Needless to say I kept the 965 :-)

Blake,
The Spec Boxster(BSR) is on it's way here right now. I'm going to DE it next weekend & have my first race weekend with it @ TWS the week after that. I had the cup for 3 years & loved it but wanted something less expensive to operate so I can rack up lots of seat time w/o worrying about it. The Boxster is CHEAP to run & should provide some good, close racing if POC is any indication. I have a buddy out here building one right now & we have a few other guys seriously looking @ making the switch or buying one as well.

Thanks for the explanation. I have a local mentor who runs his GT3 Cup in POC and is pushing me to run a Spec Boxster. It is really tempting! Please keep us updated on Rennlist about your racing experiences this year.

I could use your validation!
