Default Undertray - On or Off??

The garage carrying out my engine rebuild strongly recommends that I do not have the undertray refitted.

They say that in typical road use with heavy crawling traffic the heat generated is dissipated more quickly with the undertray off and causes less long term damage.

With the tray off you lose the improved aerodynamics at higher speeds but this is not really an issue at normal road cruising speeds.

Your opinions very welcome - do you run your 964 with the tray on or off??

I was just as confused as the rest so I cut my tray into 3 pieces and threw away the middle - put the front section on in front of the engine and under the trans and put the back section on behind the engine - some modifications were made - but the area directly under engine is open -

I do my own work on my car so I leave the dang thing off. I do not believe that leaving it on will cause damage to the engine from heat. I do believe that leaving it on is a pain in my donkey every time I try to work on the car.

Mine is off. I would have liked to take the engine tin off as well, but my research says leave engine tin on. Just need to remove rust and re-paint.

Mine was off when I bought the car and I've never missed it. If you are getting up to speeds where the aerodynamics provided by an undertray are necessary, then you are driving a whole lot faster than me!
