Anyone know of a DYI? I just did my 996 and am doing the 964 this w/e. Anything special I need to know, or is it pretty straight forward? On the 996, I had to unscrew the plug connector and boot. Looks like on the 964 you just pull the the connector/boot out to access the plugs?

Having done my 964 Turbo (single plug engine unlike the C2/C4) it's fiddly, but definitely DIY-able.
If the upper plugs are in the same place as the earlier engine, then one tip I can offer is to take off the sheet-metal on the left and right hand sides of the engine bay; there are about 6 screws to undo, but you'll have more room to work in. I can't comment on the bottom plugs on the normally aspirated engine.
I also found that the plug hole for number 6 (nearest the front of the car, right hand cylinder bank), was a tiny bit narrower than the others and I had to use a thinner extension on my ratchet to reach it.
Oh, and you are correct about the plug leads - they're just push/pull on connectors.

Bearing in mind the amount of work, it's advisable to do valve adjustment and spark plug change during the maintenance service. 996 and 964 models use totally different maintenance schedules and proceedures.

I've found that the right front(behind the PS pump) and the back left, are the most difficult, due to limited clearance. The job is easier if you have a wobble socket(like the one that comes in the tool kit),some different extensions. make sure the socket grips the plugs well.
For the bottom, you will need to remove the secondary muffler, cat, and heat sheilds. After this, it's not hard with a long extension.
