Question Help w/ Outboard CV Joint Disassembly

92 C4 Front end. Removed the inner CV joint, both boots, axle nut, wheel bearing carrier, etc. I'm down to the axle, the outer CV joint and splined stub axle but cant get the outboard CV joint off the axle. Found a reference about tilting the CV to one side and removing the ***** and cage but I think it may be for 3.2 Carreras. There has got to be a way to remove it...Help!!

Thanks!!

For the 964 axles, you need to remove the crimped on cover so you can get enough angle in the axle to twist the CV joint apart and remove the *****. Be sure you remember the cage orientation otherwise you won't have enough movement.

Chris,

There was a recent thread about this. See https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/384769-front-cv-boot-replacement-help.html

Chris,

If you are trying to remove the axle from the car there are two methods. They are both described in the thread that Rob has referenced.

If you are trying to remove the outbound CV joint from the axle, itself, you'll need to take it to a shop that can press it off and press the new joint on. These outbound joints are not DIY doable.
