Agree, would be very nice to have Mac compatibility, but I'll take whatever I can get. I'll find a crappy old PC laptop to use as you did. iPhone idea sounds intriguing....

Crappy old laptops are the best because they probably have serial ports on the back. I have one I bought for $100 which is my OBD1 and OBDII PC. Dealing with the serial to USB converter with the FTDI drivers is just one more thing to setup properly.

Jesus, tell me about it.. I'm a strictly mac guy and dealing with the port issues was kinda cryptic .. very cryptic.. maybe spend some more time on the .txt file .. I know the info is in there, but I dunno why it took me 6 months to figure out that you needed to modify that pref. file that is in the system for it to read the ports correctly.. that is really the key to the usb thing..

Ricardo.. My crap-top does have a serial port in the back, (unless the d-sub is a monitor out.. ( I think it's serial) but can the OBD1 go directly to the serial and bypass the USB

Will the scan-software read direct info from the serial port on the laptop>?

COleman.

Yes, just connect directly to the serial port but then you have to make sure the scantool software is looking at the right COM port number. Normally its COM1 and the serial port on the back of the machine should be COM1 as well.

I wish I could make things simpler but I am just providing the necessary hardware for the existing software.

FYI: I have gotten the Scantool software to work on a Mac using Parallels, and assigning one USB port as COM1.

Gentlemen,

I present to you the 2010 version of the OBD1-o-matic-2000! It slices and dices and works just like it did 3 years ago (has it been that long?).

This is my 1st assembly in 3 years and was relieved everything still works like it should. Its up to Tom now to handle the rest and assemble the remaining kits, test them on his car, and then offer them up.

Tested this out on my car and in the climate control module I have:

42=Oil cooler blower motor (doh! now what?)
