Default Indicator/blinker switch

Going to work this morning and all of a sudden I have high beams only. I was able to move it around to get low beams for a second or two, so I know it's a short in the switch. Anybody know if this can be repaired? If not, where I can get the best deal on one. This is a tiptronic so if I have to replace it, I believe it's all one unit, so it will have to have the OBC controls.

Thanks.

It can be repaired - I've done it before on two of them (sadly, I can't repair it when the indicators stop working).

If you take the assembly off, you will be able to look in where the stalk goes and see the contact that's being made. You can stick a slim screwdriver in there and bend the contact slightly.

Thanks. I'll try to go in there tomorrow and fix it.

I used Marc Shaw's excellent DIY thread to sort out my turn signal problem. Unfortunately the plastic switch for the turn signal stalk had broken away and I had to buy a new assembly.

Thanks for the link Steve. I hadn't seen that thread before.

So, Dave, will I have to drill out the rivets to get to what I need to pry on, or can I get to it from the side?

You can get to it from the side. You don't need to open it up at all.

BTW I've noticed that the ticking noise of the turn signals is very quiet on my 964. Is this normal and if not where is the relay(?) that I should replace?

This has been a weakness of 911 from WAY back. They last about 65-70,000 miles. I have replaced about 3 of these on my various 911s.

How many miles on your car?

153,000 and probably not been changed (nothing in the records). So I just need to know where to look so that I can spend some more money on it.

Me too. Had a new unit fitted. Under warranty, so don't know how much it was though. The switch that stopped working on mine was the wiper one.
