Default rattle sound behind rear passenger side wheel well

Hi,
I have a 1990 C4 and recently after idleingfor about 5 minutes, I hear a rattle at the rear passenger side of the car. Seems to be located in or around the muffler part thats behind this wheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could it be from the oil sloshing around in the tank after its been warmed?

I had a similar rattle (only at idle) which turned out to be loose/damaged baffles in the muffler. I had to replace the muffler to fix the problem. $$$

I get a rattle now and again. After my last service I was told that a few of the exhaust brackets and oil tank clips were broken and that is where the rattles were coming from...

It could also be one of the screws that hold one of the heat shields around the exhaust.

Hi,

I forgot to ask, will I damage the car if I drive it and the baffles are rattaling? Probably a silly question, I just want to make sure I am not making the problem worse by driving it.

Thanks!

Depending on what is wrong - if the muffler baffles are loose/broken, no harm will be done except to your ears. If the heat shields are loose, you may lose the bolts/shields on the road.

Maybe its time for a secondary bypass (G-pipe)? It will transform your car.

Damn mine has just started making a horible rattle on the Right hand side(uk drivers) will see if I can take a look this weekend. hoping it will be a loose braket or something on teh exhaust as I have just ordered a primary bypass so cant fit a secondary by pass as well.

I've had a rattle that was a loose top secondary hanger bolt that goes through the pwr steering housing.
