Default Removing oil residue

I recently had some unfortunate trouble with my 964. The rear oil line developed a leak (quite a big one) and made a complete mess at the back of the car. Lost quite a bit of oil. Anybody have any idea how to best remove the spilt oil from the paint/exhaust/tray/etc.?

Fortunately the engine still seems okay, even though it did run extremely low on oil for some time.

Many shops can do a hot steam power wash for you. It works well.

On non painted surfaces I just get a rag with gas then follow with a rag and brake cleaner. On painted surfaces use a mild soap solution, then wax.

Well, Using a microfiber towel and soap made it not that hard to remove off the paint. Still have to do the underside and will that the advice to heart. Thanks!

spray it with degreaser a couple of times let it sit, then go buy a couple cans of brake cleaner and it should blast it right off without having to do so much scrubbing. Steam cleaning sounds good but i did a search on here once on how to clean my engine and underside and there were lots of negative comments about it.

Wurth makes a great alcohol-based brake cleaner - I use whenever i'm underneath to clean off oil etc...

I would be really hesitant to use brake cleaner anywhere (again) on a 964. Most of them it eat paint, powder coating and the corrosion coatings used on fasteners. (I learned the hard way).

Simple Green and a old cloth works well.

I second the Simple Green, and Dawn for anything finish-painted. Always start with the mildest cleaner first, then escalate cautiously if necessary.
