Default Removing sunroof...

Does anyone know or have experience with taking a sunroof coupe (any year 911), removing the sunroof machinery, sealing the hole, and covering the roof with a new headliner? It seems this would be an easier fix to lighten the car and gain headroom. Thanks!

do a search on Race Car Project - Geoffery had a great how to do it on a 964 rsr lightweight race car.
you will have to look around as there are plenty of people that have done it.
also Pelicanparts.com in the tech area has many people that have written about the modification.

for full weight savings you need to cut the roof off and install a non-sunroof clip. Even if you do as you say, the sunroof "roof" has lots of brackets and other strengthing material that make it heavy.

You will not gain headroom from gutting the sunroof. I had mine gutted and simply bolted in for weight savings. In hindsight, I probably should have had the roof removed and replaced. If you're going this reute to save weight, why would you add a headliner back in?

How much weight did you save by removing the mechanicals in the Sunroof and then bolting it back in place?
