If you keep your resorvoir full with fluid it's no way you gonna be short of fluid and losing your breaks. the system is already full and if you top up with fluid while you're wearing down the pads the system will continue to be full.

If you put on new pads and then don't check the fluid level for 3 years you may have problem...but i don't think that's the kind of guys hanging around here.

Unless somebody freindly over their undervalues the items on the forms

The GTS calipers are identical to the 94 big reds except they are black and set up for trailing edge vs leading edge and I have yet to see them that cheap. They use the same rotors as the 94 turbo if you want cross drilled or use the GTS rotors if you want non cross drilled. The 993 rear calipers are the same ones used on a 964 RSA. Both use the same sized pad and and 34/30 piston size as used on the 94 turbo. The 993 and RSA caliper is designed to use a 299 x 24mm rotor as where the 964 turbo rear caliper uses a 299 x 28mm rotor.

I've been using the big red setup on my 90 C2 for four years now and still have the original MC. Never had any problems with it. The only thing I changed was the front disc. I switched from the 965 to 928GTS rotors. 965 is cross drilled and looks pretty, but the 928GTS is solid and now two years old. The car is strictly a track car, so the brakes get a workout. One of the best things I ever did to the car.

I think I'll probably order this from the OPC, as it's supposed to be a Christmas present from my wife! That way, it'll be here next week, and something to unwrap under the tree.
Thanks for all the advice/info/offers

Ian, did you get my private message via Rennlist regarding beating the OPC price?

Hi Gary, sorry missed your message first tim round. What sort of timescale would you be able to get the part from Germany in?
Thanks
Ian

Ian, Sorry for the delay, I bought the connectors from a local factor and had the pipes made up at another place, I just gave them the ends and asked for the approximate lengths of pipe, then bent them into shape, really easy job, and cheap so cheap and easy that I renewed all the pipes to the calipers including the crossovers, no special tools needed.

Cheers Andrew

Ian,

I had to talk to him today regarding some parts for myself. I have asked him to get me the prices first. Depends on if it's all in stock firstly regarding delivery times.

Do you have a contact number and I could let you know, probably tomorrow.

Not sure it would be before Christmas but maybe possible. Is that imperative for you?

I seem to recall hearing sometime in the past that it is possible to move the 964 stock front calipers to the back and then simply upgrade the front to the larger "big red"/928. Then fine tune with the brake bias valve do-hickie thing (sorry, I am drawing a blank on what it is called.) Has anyone done this, or have any insight on why this might be a good/bad idea?

Rob,
That is a very BAD idea !! The piston area for the fronts is much.much, much too big for the rear !!
Dont go there.

All the best

Revisiting this thread....looks like it is more cost effective to buy the parts separately from a Porsche dealer than to get one of those kits available from pelican or Fvd, etc.

Anyone knows where I can order all these parts online from Europe or US? Any leads will be very much appreciated!

Call Sunset Porsche...

Big Red Brake Upgrade: Slowly buying all the required parts for the upgrade. Using the 928GTS calipers to save a few $$... Part list:
Pad - # DP3997C
Sensors - 993.612.386.00
Front Calipers:
928-351-423-03
928-351-424-03
Front Rotors:
965-351-045-00
965-351-046-00
Caliper Adapters from FVD:
FVD 351 964 499 (x2)
Rear Calipers:
993-352-421-00
993-352-422-00
Rear Rotors:
951-352-041-91 (x2)

928GTS calipers are the same as the big reds... but you have to swap bleeds/line and paint them if you want them red... This is what I plan to do with mine.

For the adapters you have other choices... just so happen that I had purchased mine from FVD.

Awesome, Jaime! You're a great help!

Couple more questions, other than new pads and the 993 master cylinder and associated adapters from 9M (assuming I decide to change), do I also require a set of steel brakelines to fit the new front and rear calipers?

Also, what do you mean by swapping the bleed/lines with the 928 calipers?
