Geoffrey, I just realized I may have hijacked your thread. I'm sorry. I have had so many messages going out trying to find parts I got confused. It was unintentional.

Not that I'm trying to make a sale here (or stop Jim from moving on his parts) but in my opinion 993 heads have no performance advantages on an n/a engine, the oversize ports of the 993 kill intake velocity which will lose torque throughout the rpm range in comparison to the 964 head with its smaller port. However both are better than the 993RS head which has a port design similar to a bucket.....

Can we open this back up - rebuilding engine and obtained some 993 cylinders, and pistons. The 993 cylinders are flat on top with a grove cut for gasket ring. My older 964 cylinders did not have a gasket ring groove - but in looking at the difference, the 964 cylinder have a raised area around the cylinder that fits inside a like cut area on the head. In looking at the head it appears that they needs to be cut/shaved considerably to adapt to 993 cylinders. Am I missing some thing here as your prior discussion does not address this area. Can you put a 964 head on a 993 cylinder with gasket ring ?? And if you can what modifications to the head need to be made??
