installed cat bypass today
Today, I installed a used cat bypass that I bought. I don't know the brand and neither did the rennlister that sold it to me. It was on his car when he bought it. No markings on it that I saw. If anyone recognizes it from the photos, please let me know what brand it is.
The installation went easier than I expected. Its literally a bolt in application and the fit was perfect. I'm happy because I plan to keep the original cat and swap it back when needed.
My car already has a secondary bypass but is still running the stock primary. It had a deep rumbling sound before with the secondary bypass and the stock cat , but when I first fired it up with the cat bypass today, it definitely has a louder roar to it when you get on it. I took it out for a half hour of road testing and was pleased with the sound. At highway speeds, its not much louder than it was with the stock cat, until you open up the throttle. But for highway cruising, to me anyway, it is very tolerable. Accelerating from a standstill to redline through the gears, it absolutely roars. I love it. Very addictive. But I plan to keep the stock primary muffler on it because I think it would probably be too loud with all three bypassed at once.
The butt dyno feels like there is an improvement in acceleration. Or maybe its just the extra adrenelin from the sound. But I really do think it pulls stronger now with the cat bypass. I'd like to dyno it with the stock cat and then dyno it with the bypass. Maybe I'll get a chance to do that in the next couple of weeks. If I do, I'll report the results here.
Here's a couple of photos. Nothing fancy to look at, but very functional. I do have a question: Will not having the heat sheild on it that surrounded the original cat cause me any problems?

I am no expert, but I suspect you will not have a problem without the heat shield. A standard cat operates by getting really really hot. Since this is a bypass, hot gases will travel along their merry way and simply heat up similar to the rest of the pipes.

Here's a few pics of the cat bypass out of the car. I reinstalled the original cat this afternoon. The swap only takes about 30 minutes, so it doesn't look like it'll be a big deal to swap back and forth if needed.

That's the one iI was supposed to get! I posted right after he put it on the site. omen340 right?
Oh well.... he said he would send a pic and never did, then told me he sold it.
Had to rant... would have loved to have it.
Anyone else that has one, still looking.
