I used Foliatech which is a specific brake caliper two pack paint, been on a year or two now, and still as good as the day I did it.
Not the best image, but gives the idea.

Just remember the caliper paints are not all the same color red and very few match the red of the big reds which is not guards red although close. Since your car is guards red you want to verify the color before proceeding. The duplicolor kit is much darker red and although they say it is self leveling it is not. If you want a clean look you need to find the product in spray cans and remove the calipers to do it correctly.

I have this kit.

not sure if it matches but was told it did.

Hi Ian i did mine with the Duplicolor system from advance autoparts. The Red is really pretty and matches factory red calipers and my guards red great. Its kind of tempermental to work with cause it gets gummy on the brush so get a few brushes. The results are awsome If you prep your calipers right. Do not get the duplicolor SPRAY i tried it thinking it would be easier but it does not come out shiney and the red is more of a brick red. The brushed on method comes out really nice and shiney after a few coats. I then used white high heat engine spray to spray on the porsche with that stencil you can buy. This is the best pic i have of it.

Good luck

Question Is Hi, HI, or just, hi?

Jerry-

Have you been through many/any track events that would've pushed your clear coat to the brake's thermal extremes?

I'm curious because what you described is what I'd considered but pondered if engine block 'hi temp' was brake caliper 'HI temp'.
By the looks, though, I'd say it's a pretty damned fine technique!

Guys, just thought I had better point out that Ian started this thread in 2006 and I dug it up through the search engine to add what I found out about getting 'period decals' to go on the calipers.

But since I dug it up yesterday it's nice to see all the different colour calipers we have between us; red, black, green, blue and yellow . Anyone out there with GP white calipers?

Lonnie i have no idea how this would hold up under track conditions. I can tell you this... my right front pads were dragging the rotor somewhat and my entire front wheel and brake assembly got scorching hot and it had no ill effect on the caliper paint. As for the engine enamel i used for the porsche stencil its still good too but i dont know what kind of temps it can acutally take. The stuff is almost like ceramic when it dries, real hard but easy to chip if you hit it with your wheel when taking a wheel off, ask me how i know. Lonnie i dont know what you mean by clear coat i did not use any clear coat. The porsche stencil is white paint and not a sticker with clear on top if thats what you meant.

Here is my set with VHT red.

I baked them in the oven when my wife was not around. I sanded the "porsche" lettering to expose the aluminum, with the intention to then clear coat the calipers, but I never bothered after. The Porsche lettering still looks perfect.

They are holding up quite good, but you must be very carefull when bleeding the brakes. The paint will not hold up to contact with brake fluid.

Cheers,
Michael

I have experimented with varying paints and VHT is a much more superior product than Duplicolor. When I upgraded to 993TT brakes I ended up using the VHT paint it is holding up EXTREMELY well, I even painted the stencil with their white caliper paint. I bought the stencils from Rennline. Total cost of VHT caliper paint, sandpaper, brake parts cleaner, stencils etc about $60.

Here are a few pics:

Hope that helps - Yasin

Jerry, it goes on as a standard spray. However IMHO, results are far better after baking.

I think I posted a thread on this, let me go look for a link.

Hello from Belgium,

Do you have any tutorial how to remove the calipers from the car ?
I have two left hands so something detailed with a lot of pictures please
Is it difficult to remove the calipers, is it dangerous not done correctly ?
