Something I've thought about...won't the car open the locks when the battery drains completely?

I have an electrical cutoff and with it turned off the car remains locked. Bummer! At least it should be unlocked in time for my next DE day in mid-September.

Uhhh, yeahhhh, you would kinda hope that would be the case. But bad for your situation.

I keep an extra set hidden deep in the house. I fully expect that if I ever need them, I will no longer remember where I put them due to a "senior moment".
But at least my teenaged kids won't find them either!!!

I paid $75 at my PO in San Jose last year with only the VIN#. You might call around other PO for a price and ask for a credit.

I locked myself out of my Yukon last year. Called the dealership I bought it from and they delivered it in 15 minutes free of charge. I guess that's why Porshce is so profitable.

Yes, if the battery dies the car will unlock. The lower left front plastic tray is held on with maybe 9 screws and with that removed you can reach up and pull the emergency release (if you car has one) to the trunk and then disconnect the battery.

I thought with the doors would remain locked, but could be opened manually with the key; albeit difficultly.

I remember walking out into the garage one winter and seeing the doors unlocked with the battery dead. It could be bad memory on my part, I will have to try it again.

Same here...when my battery got an internal short and totally died, I swear when I went to get in the car the doors had unlocked (and I had previously locked them).

and it is a good thing that you did because I will now go and test something I thought I remembered but was not 100% on but should have been, before suggesting anyone go to the hassle of looking for an emergency trunk release that might not exist for their model year.

why would the doors unlock- wouldn't that require power which a dead battery wouldn't have? Why would the system even do something like that? Interesting...and something which if true I hope I never have to rely on

Had quite a suprise yesterday. My significant other picked up the key cut from my VIN #. She called to say that it would not unlock my car, but it only cost $74.00 instead of $241.00 as I was told...I suppose that's why it was discounted ... maybe the parts man felt sorry for her.

I could sell you a key for $50 that won't unlock your car if you want.
