I have actually driven that road several times. Never in the Porsche, but in the Audi TT. It's really quite something. I think it's extremely hazerdous and too many people try to drive it way too fast. In just my few brief trips back and forth through there, I saw a felow Audi TT driver ruin a set of wheels driving off to one side, and a lady driving a sport bike nearly dump it. It's fun, but be careful!

How were the cops?

I worry about all the sport bikes. Last time I was in what we call the gorge around here and one started to pass me. I had to let up to let him in or he would have head on'd another car.

I've done it, but only in a Jetta. Would be an amazing drive in my present Miata. Gorgeous countryside, too. Go down, make a weekend out of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and drive the road. It's definitely worth the trip.

A lot of the BMW Z3 guys run this as part of their "homecoming" each year (the BMW Z3 plant is in North Carolina and there is an annual gathering there). Sounds fun but I've never been there. There is a tree there at Deals Gap that is decorated with mangled pieces of cars and motorcycles that wiped out. I saw a photo of it... Looked like a Christmas tree from Hell.

Not to correct TR6, but the BMW plant is in South Carolina (between Spartanburg and Greenville, right on I-85). The plant is worth a stop just for the free museum and plant tour. If you're really interested, there was an article about the Dragon in a recent issue of Car & Driver magazine. Probably is online.

I've done it but not in the Porsche. It's almost too many turns and gets nauseating after a while but it is very pretty. Just take it easy; we saw an ambulance going up as we descended the other side.
Also check out the North Georgia mountains which is very close to Deal's Gap (aka Dragon's Tail). Neel's Gap, Unicoi Gap, Hogpen, Woody...great stuff. I've only done these on a bicycle but they would be awesome in a Porsche.

I did it back in the early '70s on a Harley. Still in therapy.

Cops have no place to sit on the roads without causing an accident. There's just no way to enforce common sense either.

Default why yes I have!

I was down there for my annual camping trip in Blairsville... came from OH and took Deal's Gap/Tail-of-the-Dragon to get there...

A site does pictures and you can order the hi-res (which printed awesome at 12x18) after you get home.... Here are some from my trip.

And....

I have friends on sportbikes that do that run. They say it is a blast. Would love to get on it with 964.
Anybody interested in an organized run?

I might be interested. Some Pelicans tried it, however. I think three people actually showed.
