$13 Window Switch from Automotion?
Anyone try these out -
http://www.automotion.com/productpag...=Window+Switch
Sure beats the $60 the dealer wants for them... I have 2 broke currently.
Are these OEM or knock offs? I'm sure the quality couldnt get any worse than the "one year disposable window switches" Porsche is selling...
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Mike

Mike:
I just replaced a window switch on my 1991 C2 and the prongs on the switch were different than the ones shown in the picture on your attached link. Just to verify if the switch had changed from '90 to '91, I searched your attached link for my '91 MY and the picture with the wrong plug-in appeared. I suggest that you pull your switch, which is easy, and check if the pictured switch is the correct part.

I've bought these switches from Automotion. I'm not sure if they are OEM's or not but they look identical to the one's I've purchased from the dealers. I suggest you give them a try. I've been happy with their quality. They seem to last as long as the dealer versions. Neither last as long as I would like them to.
Note: I agree, the photo is wrong. The ones that I received were exact replacements.

You may want to search the 993 forum, because people have posted about permanent fixes to their switches. Typically the plastic knub hinge on the rocker breaks and IIIRC the fix is to drill a hole and insert a paper clip or similar to act as a hinge. I think Robin Sun posted about this, among other people.

I changed to DPDT rockers (ref. www.jameco.com, search 35-3695), wired to reverse polarity, for the current technology's MTBF.
Sorry, I don't know where my notes are for the rudimentary schematic details, but it was a simple pinout with a VOM. I pig-tailed to the harness to retain the stock connectors.
The right door required independent power, but the left switches power both as stock. Required removal of the stock metal switch bezel, but fits snug and secure.

I tied into the harness with wires that had connectors to accept the spade terminals on the switch.

"does anyone have that beat?"
I bought one , put it in the garage so that it would be safe and near the car , can't find it now .
Got zero use out of it . Does that beat 3 weeks of use ?

I recently bought two of these cheap ones. One lasted a day, and the other still works, but not very well. I managed to fix the one that broke, but it doesn't work as well as it orginally did. It's way too loose, as is the one that didn't completely break.
The problem with the ones I got is that the rocker part of the switch is warped a bit, which allows the pins on the sides of the rocker to come out of the holes in the side of the switch housing. The internal spring/ball channels are then out of parallel and this then allows the little metal ball to get out of line and the coil springs bend. I put a stack of thick paper between the channels to wedge them apart back to nearly parallel. It's really a pain in the you know what to get the whole little assembly back together after you take it apart.
I had thrown away the original switches along with the rest of the plugs, caps, rotors, etc. when cleaning up after a big up-fixin weekend. Trash came the next day, and they're gone. I would have fixed the originals had I known the replacements would be broken so soon.
