Thanks Jason,

I'm used to the adjustment holes being in the backplate, but never mind. With the amount of rust I had. An internal inspection, and a good wire brushing wont do any harm.

Rob,
Keep us posted over time. I'm anxious to see if this is indeed the problem, and not the CV joint.
I've been having the same problem over @ 6 months. A distinct clicking/knocking noise in
passenger rear. It has completely dissappeared over time and then come back! I've been baffled
since it sounds like something "major" and then dissapears for months. I'm hoping for both
of us that you've discovered the source!!

Will Do,

Yesterday, 1/2 hour into a trip in the country I thought I was going to have to call a tow truck out. I 'limped' home, checked underneath as above, nothing.
An hour not driving then I go for a test drive, nothing for 2 miles or so then slowly the noise starts. Today after a good clean out and adjust, a >1 hour drive still quiet. I've first noticed the noise a year or so ago, after trip of about 40 miles. The noise would start, and over time it's got steadily worse.

Jason,
In your step by step you recommend not to use a British flat blade.

What nationality do you recommend ??

Well it's been 3 weeks now, and a fair amount of driving, and not a peep from the rear. So if you hear strange clicking from your rear. Don't automatically assume it's the dreaded CV, it could be out of adjustment shoes, and rust. I think Tips would be more likely to suffer, due to (as I do) using 'Park' rather than applying the hand (emergency, for our US cousins ) brake.
